830

Bose currently doing a holiday sale on these. $249 at Amazon, however you can get further 10% off at Bose. Brings it down to $224.96 All time low!

Method 1) If you're a new Bose customer, the welcome popup lets you claim a 10% off unique coupon by entering your email
Method 2) Goto https://www.techradar.com/au/coupons/bose and click on the first coupon link under "Bose: score 10% off orders of $200 or more with this voucher code". It generates a unique 10% off coupon code.

Why should I buy?
1) If you're still listening to your flat screen LCD TV speakers in 2024… It'll make a big difference.
2) If you can't be bothered picking up another remote and turning on your $10K AV setup just to watch a news segment/TV show

Convince me….
- It has an "Enhanced dialogue" feature which makes listening to vocals and news a lot clearer for the boomers. Yeah, that means you can finally turn off teletext subtitles!
- It's got ARC HDMI so when you turn the TV on/off, it does the same, when you increase/decrease volume on your TV remote, it also plays along.
- Bluetooth support. You can connect your phone and stream music/audio podcasts to the speakers
- Inputs: ARC HDMI, Optical, AUX IN

I have my own active subwoofer, does anyone know if I can plug this into this. This has a bass connector but not sure if it's proprietary.
Also check you amex for $40 Off $200 spend

  • I have this on my PC, fantastic compact speaker and this is agreat price for what it does.

    • How do you connect from your PC? HDMI?

      • +2

Optical or headphone cable from PC to back of speaker.
Enable the 'Auto ON when sound signal is detected' feature (see below).

  • Ooh cheaper than the previous deal. Is this alt?

  • We have one for the bedroom tv, very capable. Especially if ypu watxh late at night and dont want it super loud.

  • +2

Are these any good? I've been extremely disappointed with pretty much every soundbar I've looked at and purchased.

    • The reviews seem to be that it's great if you want a speaking to help improve dialog in movies, but for bass/music it's only going to be a small step up from a good TV speaker.

    • +3

If you are disappointed in every sound bar you have tried, then most likely this wont meet your standards unless all the other soundbars you tried were even lower quality than this. At this price range, it isnt really considered a medium or high end soundbar. Its more to compete in the lower end market or to compete vs TV speakers.

    • +3

get a receiver and a pair of tower speakers, no soundbar will ever get close to the quality of big speakers - I had a premium soundbar and upgraded to a cheap $1400 pair of towers and what a difference…

      • +1

Sorry I know shit all about speakers. Are there any set ups you can recommend?

        • depends entirely on your budget

a good entry point is a Denon 1800H receiver + the Yamaha ns-555 plus sw-300 sub, or, the ns-777 and no sub

a smaller but more expensive kit would be the PSB X2T + sub as well

considering movies / games and music, for music only get a stereo yamaha receiver and no sub

          • @CrazyTachikoma: I have always seen those AV receivers and thought they were over priced. I'm assuming that I've just been ignorant and that they actually make a massive difference?

            • +2

@Smol Cat: If you get big speakers, it's a huge difference. If you are using 2x bookshelf speakers you can get away with much smaller stereo amps.

        • Facebook market place may have lots. I think a lot of guys are downgrading to soundbar to save space. better connectivity, ie Bluetooth, eARC for the family.

  • Will this turn on automatically when the TV turns on? (Sony TV here)

    • +2

      Yes on mine

    • Yes on my s95b Samsung.

    • It should do, but I think it depends on the quality of TV you have connected to it (Sony should be fine).
I have two of these - 1 in our main bedroom (TV=Samsung) and one in the dining room/kitchen (TV=Philips).
The one connected to the Philips always has a drama turning on because the Philips takes f o r e v e r to turn on. It's like there is a window that the soundbar needs to receive a signal before it just gives up. I then need to turn the soundbar on manually.
I just deal with it because my partner likes to turn it on whilst cooking, watch news etc. It's a cheap TV but I'm 95% sure its messing up the soundbar sync process.

    • +1

Yeh you can, that's why i included the remote control manual video.

There's an option to make it automatically turn ON whenever there's any audio signal coming through (Hold Power button for 3 seconds to activate it). Otherwise, it'll just turn on/off whenever you use your TV remote via ARC HDMI signal.

Some other nifty features. It remembers up to 8 BT devices and you can turn on the speaker simply by pairing/connecting to it from your phone.
To adjust BASS, hit the 'BASS' button, adjust the bass with - / + key, then press 'BASS' again to save the settings.

      • Awesome ordered thx

Plus Amex offer get $40 back when you spend over $200, price comes down to $184.96

    • Legend, thank you.

  • Many thanks was waiting for this to be cheaper, just bought one.

  • Thanks OP and upvote for @Gladiator679 for alerting to the Amex offer. Bought!

  • Thanks OP got one.

  • Thanks Op, great write up for getting the code etc

Still holding onto my Yamaha ATS 108s, is this a worthwhile upgrade after having paid a similar amount years ago?

    • Wanna know as well. Does Bose sound better than OZB fav Yamaha 108?

    • The Yamaha is better, but you can't get it anymore, plus it's bigger overall (30cm? wider). However the "Enhanced dialogue" is better on the Bose.

      • Now if only my unit would actually retain the arc settings. It seems to reset and never connect via ARC.

  • I have this for our outdoor TV, it's very impressive.

I stood for ages in GG listening to Samsung and LG bars that were twice and long with subs and about 50% more $$, feeling like I needed to be spending more, but kept returning to this for clarity and punch.

    • Hows the bass without a subwoofer, if its at least as good as the bose mini im happy

      • I think it's great, relative to expectations for size and cost!

Our sits on top of a fridge outside under the patio, and is great for music or watching sport (it's main two uses).

I don't know how people rave about Samsung soundbars, I have two different versions both with subs (darer than this) and they're good but not amazing.

  • +1

Very honest description by Bose. Phone, camera and calculator makers should describe their so-called soundbars as TV speakers, too.

  • Thanks OP. If it helps anyone, cashback tracked for me using StudentBeans code (Cashrewards $4.86).

  • Thanks OP. Used Student beans, $210 is a steal.

  • +2

Thanks OP. Used SB + AMEX, $169.95 is a real bargain

    • How did you get it down to $169.95?

      • StudentBeans off $40
AMEX $40 off $200 offer (targeted)

        • i did this too!

Almost purchased it, then I watched this review on YouTube:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7fe_LXK93E

After that, I realized I will not buy it.

    • That review is bogus, mine just arrived, it sounds very decent and the bass is loud, low and rumbling, i only set it to around 60% anymore it's too overwhelming, definitely worth the price. Not sure why the review says it has no bass. 100% false

  • +1

If you have the space and can live without HDMI ARC, then the active speakers range from Edifier are better than any sound bar.

  • I assume it's a no….but can I use this a center speaker in a 5.1 system. My current center speaker is dying.

    • definitely not

  • +4

Weird, when i add to cart, it shows $293 for me, anyone seeing the same?

  • About all it's worth going by the RTINGS review: https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/reviews/bose/tv-speaker

  • Really wish these came with the option of a cheap sub. It is always what has killed it for me, the sub options are far too expensive and you can't use anything other than Bose.

  • +1

No longer available. The special price has been changed to $293.95 now

  • I'm trying to decide whether to get this or the Sony HT-S100F, as Sony is half the price with similar RTINGS review.

    Any feedback?

  • +1

Very bad soundbar. Didnt even last me an year :(
Hardware is good, sound quality is amazing.
Software is glitchy, connectivity is all over the place. HDMI gave out, Bluetooth is unreliable and now the only thing working is optical.
Regrets. Reddit is filled with the same issues for this soundbar.

  • Damn, expired. I think it would have been the perfect soundbar for my usecase. TV is predominantly being used for tv shows and sports so not too worried about the lack of bass or narrow soundstage. Any other soundbar in the same price region and similar form factor (small)

  • -1

wished they had USB-C input too.. that means sorted out for Monitor movies too :-)

    • What are you trying to connect with usb c?

  • I was confused by the name "Bose TV Speaker." What makes a speaker a "TV speaker"? it turns out it's just a soundbar

  • +5

I purchased this a year ago and returned it right away - it's not much better than standard tv speakers, even after fiddling with settings. At this price level of soundbars, you are better off with a Yamaha - it may not look as sexy but it's much clearer, more full sounding, and also has settings for better dialogue. If willing to spend a little bit more, Sonos Ray is also a superior soundbar.

  • If anyone is still around this thread does this mean you have to use your TV remote to change channels and the Bose remote for volume? I've just plugged mine in and I just can't figure out how to make my tv remote the main remote (Samsung) urghh

    • +1

Plug your TV into HDMI port of the BOSE. Then make sure you enable HDMI ARC settings on your Samsung TV.

      • That's so much stranger, Merry Christmas!
