Garmin Edge Explore 2 GPS Cycling Computer $379 Delivered @ Garmin

150

Best option for a cycling computer IMO if you're not into having 100 different fitness metrics and are more interesting in the route planning and directions features. In-depth review here: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2022/07/garmin-edge-explore-2-in…

Lowest price seen in a while and direct from Garmin. Free shipping with this price.

I just ordered one and it gave me 5-7 business days as the delivery timeframe so if that's correct (a big 'if') then could arrive before Christmas if that's what you're after.

I don't believe this works with the Health Insurance coupons that get promoted every once in a while as they only apply to watches (happy to be corrected though).

please enlighten me on this health insurance coupon

  • Very tempting, as I recently ordered the Varia from another OzBargain post, and looks this is compatible with that.

  • whats the benefits over a smartphone on a QuadLock?
I always do have my phone on me anyway.
serious question, I'm just a Sunday rider.

Not a lot of you're just a casual rider doing short rides where battery life isn't an issue.

    • Yeah similar question, as a casual commuter rider only. I got the Varia radar recently, but can just use with phone app.

    • Check out igsport bsc200 and above, not too expensive and may serve what you need.
I don't have Varia so not 100% sure it will work(do research), but they have their own rear radar which works with their bike comp, so potentially it will work Varia to.

To answer why this vs phone - as below this will less likely break if you fall.
Plus battery life, a bike comp will last way more than a day.
A phone running strava will last 3-4 hours maybe?

    • Even with a Quadlock your smartphone is liable to get damaged - especially the camera. Heaps of Reddit threads from people who have had this happen.

The only reason I got one of these is because I've started doing multi-day bike tours through regional areas with a million unmarked paths. Got sick of taking my phone / paper map out of my pocket every 2 kms to check where I was going. GPS computers also have much better battery life.

If you're a Sunday rider and in mostly urban areas or on the same routes and don't care about the fitness metrics stuff then I wouldn't bother.

phone is exposed to damage if you crash, bike falls over etc. Bike computer is "tougher" and less likely to be damaged.

    • '+ likely to mess up OIS in a smartphones's camera when you hit bumps/pot holes (not in Victoria, of course)
