Has anyone used Snapfish in the past and they would recommend?

Looking at reviews on TrustPilot, this is a company to avoid.

It largely comes down to your previous printing experience. If you have previously printed high quality prints, you'll be somewhat disappointed.

If you have minimal experience with high quality prints or prints in general, you'll be satisfied and maybe even delighted.

Of course the quality of the print, like with any printing, depends on the quality of the source file you upload and what the end product is.

I imagine many of the bad reviews are people who upload low resolution files. And/or expected premium quality results at a bargain basement price.

I just received my 2025 calendar and it looks great. I also got a magnet with the "Do you also want a magnet?" trick but the magnet is a small square you peel and stick on the image. I'm not a fan of this as I prefer my magnet images to have a fully backed magnet, not like this.

    • +1

I'm a photographer and I've used them heaps of times for canvas prints, magnets, cards, stubby coolers and calendars. I have no issue with their products at all. The quality is fine and they guarantee the quality. I've had a few calendars come with print issues and all I've had to do is send them a photo and they will reprint and post replacement at no cost.

  • $15 delivery kills it for me.

    • +9

It's still a very good price even after you factor in shipping costs… You're paying a total of $30-$50 for a custom made book with your own prints, or a large canvas.

It's annoying when the item is around the same price as the shipping, but you also shouldn't get mentally attached to the "pre-shipping cost" number.

You were expecting free shipping on a canvas that is at least 20x30cm, on top of 75% off?

      • Maybe a little cheaper.

        • +2

You should see how much it would cost you to pack safely and ship a 20x30cm canvas.

Literally just received some canvas prints a few days ago ordered from Canvas Factory (90x60cm and 1.3m x 0.65m) and I thought the print quality was excellent and the customer service was top rate (live chat at 11pm and got a response within seconds, without getting into details I am getting my 1.3m canvas reprinted already for some minor blemish). Price was very good too the 1.3m canvas was under $200 delivered. It was my first time using that print shop as well.

If anyone has experience with Acrylic prints appreciate a recommendation.

    • I have experience with acrylic prints. My advice is the same as what I said to Momeht. Go to a specialised print store and talk to the experts. I would recommend doing this even more than for normal prints because they are more expensive, so if you print at a cheaper place and it's bad, you're losing more money on it.

      • Thanks. If i cant work it out online im just not going to bother. Driving about to stores and what not is not what im after.

  • Could anyone recommend a professional-quality A4 photo poster printing service (not on canvas)?

What are you printing, what are using it for and where are you located? If it's a photo or art print that you intend to frame and hang up on your wall I'd recommend going to your local specialised photo printing company. If you're going to see it hanging on your wall everyday for the next few years it's worth getting a high quality print. I print at Fitzgerald Photo Imaging in Perth. They are more expensive than other place but high quality and you can go in store and get their advice before getting it printed.

      • Do you pay for the frames? Do they print your photos?
        In Sydney, they're asking for $1,000 for three 12 x 15 prints.

        • +2

I get my photos printed at Fitzgerald's but get the frames elsewhere (somewhere cheaper). As a photographer I see prints as an investment in your living space. They don't just fill a blank space on a wall, they add to the room. If it's going to be on your wall for years and you're going to see it everyday, then you might as well invest in a high quality print, rather than something cheaper that you won't like as much.

          • @JRozells: Interesting.
So you do your photos and editing.
You take it to Fitzgerald's who print it for you.
Then you order for custom frames from somewhere else because Fitzgerald's charges too much for their frames.
You then assemble and install your photo prints inside the frames yourself.

Sounds good! Now, I need to find someone like Fitzgerald's in NSW. 😊
And then also your custom framer person @JRozells

@Lord Ra: Not quite, here's my process. I edit my photos on a colour calibrated monitor. If I just want a standard paper print for myself/a client I'll go print it online and then click and collect. If I'm printing on paper, it's almost always a standard sized print so that I can find a cheaper frame at somewhere like IKEA, Myer or somewhere similar.

If I'm printing an acrylic I'll go in store to order it. I'll go in because they are more expensive so I want to double check with a staff member that it will look good on acrylic before it's printed. I prefer acrylics over paper printers because they are vibrant and have a 3d like appearance. They work very well for many of my landscape and astrophotography photos. Acrylics also can hang straight onto a wall, so you don't need to buy a frame. Fitzgerald's can also do custom size acrylics, which makes them great for panoramas that I don't want to crop. They are however, considerably more expensive than a paper print + cheap frame so I only buy them for prominent locations in the house.

    • @JRozells,

Thank you for your response and recommendation! I’m definitely looking for premium quality since my photos will be framed and hanging on walls for a long time.

I’m based in Melbourne, but unfortunately, most of the places I’ve used previously didn’t survive post-Covid, so I’m now exploring alternatives. Are you aware of any services similar to Fitzgerald Photo Imaging closer to Melb?

      Thanks again for your help!

      • I don't know any place off the top of my head. I'll ask some of my Victorian based photographer friends and get back to you.

      • Thank you so much, JRozells! I'm a photographer myself, and like you, I decorate my walls with my works. I still have a few 'blanks' on my walls, and since I haven’t printed large photos in several years, I’m on the lookout for a good quality printer in Melbourne. I’d really appreciate it if you could check with your Victorian-based photographer friends.

        Thanks again for your help!

        • Narre Warren Fine Art Printing, CPL Digital, and Matte Image were all recommended as good photo labs.

        • Thank you so much, @JRozells and @hellomyfriend, for your recommendations!

CPL Digital turns out to be almost within walking distance from where I live, which is fantastic. Matte Image in Abbotsford is about a 20-minute drive, so it’s definitely doable as well. Narre Warren might be a bit far for me, but I really appreciate the suggestion.

I have to admit, I’ve been a bit lost with all the printing options (“lustre & gloss” vs. “fine art” printing), so I’ll check if I can pop into CPL and attack them with questions.

Thanks again for your help - I’m really looking forward to getting some prints done!

      • Check out CPL Digital in Port Melbourne. I've been very happy with the quality of their prints for professional quality work.

  • Geez their RRP is quite high but with the discount comes quite cheap.

Canvas print discounts are like rug discounts. You can’t pay full price even if you want to.

Our family have used Snapfish around ten times for glossy photo albums mostly of travel photos, spread across as many years. We have been very happy with the results. Any problems have been caused by us - including trying to squeeze too many on a page resulting in them all being disappointing. Of course you have to balance that against the cost of having extra pages. Inadequate quality source material is the other main issue, as others have noted.

All the photos we used have come from mobile phone cameras rather than an SLR, and when we give them a well exposed clear shot they produce a good print. We like to include some pages with a single photo and in a large format book they can look stunning. Our experience of them has definitely been positive.

Their online system is completely useless - can't upload from multiple computers despite using multiple file types and sizes from multiple computers. Other companies no problem. FU Snapfish.

  • Does the discount work on acrylic?
