Good Chinese Restaurant in Sydney CBD

Chinese or Cantonese doesn't really matter but we are looking for a restaurant to invite our friend who came from overseas.

Not too trashy looking and don't mind paying extra, provided the food is on par with the taste.

Last year we went to Golden Century and we wouldn't mind paying the price tag but it sure didn't warrant the food quality served.

We have few in minds:
1. Table Eight
2. Sky Phoenix Westfield
3. Lilong by Taste of Shanghai (… food is great but the ambience is not so much)

Any suggestions? Thank you!

It's always right at the wong restaurant.

Neptune Palace is a good option. Order a few varied sharing platters and they come around and serve you each. Really good experience and service for a visitor. It's also right on the tip of circular quay to then walk them around and/or grab the train/tram.

You really need to head to Brisbane if you want a succulent Chinese meal.

I’d head out of the CBD for great Chinese food. Ashfield, Burwood and Hurstville has great stuff

If you want great Thai food though, Spice I Am in Surry Hills. Ambiance not great, food is the best Thai bar none

You might want to try Thainesia in Oxford St (243) to be sure. They have been there for 30 plus years and exceptional

      • I’ve been there some years ago, thought it was okay but not on par with Spice I Am

    Mr wong

But all the options you mentioned are good (except I think you meant "The Eight")
Just pick one you can't really go wrong

Just stay away from the Chinese restaurants on Dixon where they stand outside trying to get your to come in…

It is actually called The Eight. Really good restaurant and they do yum cha in the morning from 10am which is an interesting experience for non-chinese friends. Free 2hrs parking validation if you dine there.

  • There aren't many good places anymore.

Best place I found that has reasonable quality of food is Emperor's Garden BBQ and Noodles, but I don't believe it has the aesthetics you are looking for.

The Eight is basically just reheated pre-made frozen foods and you can definitely taste the substandard quality…

Stay away from East Ocean as well.

There is a Japanese place at the top of Market City that is fairly good, but it's not Chinese. lol. Aesthetics are alright I guess. Have scout around.

  • The Palace (in Picadilly) is pretty good for dinner and yum cha.
Royal Palace (the old Golden Century site) is not bad for yum cha (although their prawn dumplings are average)
Sky Phoenix Yum Cha quality was average

What dishes do you want to order?
