BTW they created new subscription plans and retired old ones. Table
The old suspendable Freedom is no more, but if you cancel new one, it'll offer to transition it to "Enabled" one, which is PayAsYouGo kind of plan.

I had a previously cancelled Freedom. In Earthmate app / More / My InReach I had Subscribe, filled all stuff, on Payment page there was Coupon field.
EarthMate because InReach 1. For InReach 2 there is Messenger app.

Classic enshitification from Garmin, the whole point of the old plans was that you could suspend when you are not using them.

Pro enshitification move to send out cryptic emails saying the plans were changing but requiring people to pop out a spreadsheet to work out how much worse off they are.

If you are a regular suspender you pay a lot more now. I’ve got two of these between me and my wife, great technology but it’s going to be so much more expensive to activate 2 devices for 2-3 months of the year.

Thanks for the post though OP, I may use over the Christmas break for some remote trail running.

    • Agree. those plans were so unnecessarily complicated. Just give me a plan where my credit card is on file and you just charge me per message instead of nonsense activation BS. Now days its probably easier to just use starlink. that and phones having satellite capability soon they will be obsolete anyway.

    • Yup the initial use case for these is rapidly falling off due to Garmin's greed.

I typically mostly hike in winter and shoulder season, so I was only activating my plan for a month and then off and then on and then off.

I didn't realise they'd forced the change and copped a dead month when I had no leave booked.

Honestly hoping DTC (direct to cell) tech moves into prod for 2025, sick of these companies backtracking their product to screw the consumer.

  • Please add expiry date to your deals. You already knew what it is.

    Expires Dec 31!
