          too bad missed christmas window

    • whats the difference?

  • I need the bigger one 85"

  • Much difference between this and the 835?

  • Recently bought for 1450 from jb, very happy with this tv

    • @tobia could you share your receipt?

I got it slightly cheaper from Bing Lee a few weeks ago. Very happy with it - Xbox Series X and PS5 connected via HDMI 1 and 2 for 120Hz VRR goodness.

    The ports support:

    HDMI1 - 4k 144hz
    HDMI2 - 4k 120hz
    HDMI3 - 4k 60hz
    HDMI4 - 4k 60hz

I'm using ARC to return audio back to my old Yamaha receiver which supports 4K but not VRR.

The inbuilt Google TV's Plex app works just like the real Chromecast (no issues so far playing any videos) so I'm very happy.

    • The inbuilt Google TV's Plex app works just like the real Chromecast (no issues so far playing any videos)

The native Plex app won't passthrough lossless audio. Other than that, it'll be fine.

Oooh! I don't think I've even paid attention to the audio side of it - oops!

I've tried Plex apps built into other TVs (older TCL and my parents Sony) and they wouldn't play video properly so I had to use a proper Chromecast. This one seems to work, but my videos aren't 4k remux with HD audio so that's probably why I haven't noticed anything

EDIT - looks like I can't get 5.1 surround sound via ARC, it's only showing as stereo. I have some investigating to do…

EDIT2 - Yep, I can't get uncompressed surround (5.1+) via HDMI ARC for ANYTHING. Plex (native app), Xbox and PS5 all are stuck in stereo. I had to force the Xbox and PS5 to output as Dolby / DTS… and for the Plex native app, change from "HDMI passthrough" to "Optical" output setting (with AC3/DTS enabled), even though it's still using HDMI. Now I'm getting proper 5.1 via everything, but like you said, it's not uncompressed.

I'll likely need to upgrade to a better AV receiver with all the HD audio formats, and proper 4K VRR passthrough… but this is more than good enough for my old ears :)

        • Solid reporting, thanks for your efforts mate

        • Thanks for this. What receiver do you have?

i have not been a fan of tcl and samsung, sony just seem to have better colour, i think this is because the don't use blue backlit light

Can this be returned for change of mind back to Costco if the price falls at any other retailers around boxing day?

    • +1

Yes, it appears that TVs are covered for 90-ay change of mind returns for costco

    • +1

Asked instore during black fri and they said TVs can be returned under change of mind.

    • Being a big box item, would be real hassle trying to return it!

Costco will accept it as a return within 90 days. After 90 days they would just refer you to TCL for warranty service I expect.

  • How would this compare to a big-name brand with similar specs?

    • -3

It wouldnt. Tvs like Sony and LG are where they are because of their quality. TVs like TCL and Hisense are budget tvs. For people like I cant do the budget tvs. I see all the issues really quickly. Everything from softer picture, overly sharpened, framerate issues, poor colour etc. The people who dont see these or dont care about it are those who have lower standards and just want a big picture. Honestly I wish I could be like those people. But my brain refuses to let me.

i'm a bit of a TV noob just doing some basic research for my first TV upgrade in over a decade. From what I've read it would seem that a majority of people on OzB think that the TCL is close to leading in the Mini LED department, and the competitive price is the cherry on top.

Anyways, could be wrong. I'm keen to hear more opinions from people who know what they're talking about so I can make an informed decision when I have to buy my TV in the next couple months.

Compare 2017 Sony x900e (x9000e in Aus) to the recent TCL 755 (Qm751G) On Rtings.com.
That 7 year old TV excels this 2023/2024 panel in at least movie quality and sports content even though that was a VA panel, and is very close in hdr content

      • In recent reviews TCL have been equal to or surpass Sony and LG who trade on past reputation to justify a large price premium. I guess you can describe Sony's as price gouger TV's and TCL etc are just the fair market price.

      • +1

Please don’t compare Sony to Korean rubbish. Sony and LG are not in the same league

        • I said they were better than TLC and hisense. Besides its fairly accepted that the LG OLED tvs are probably the top for OLED sets.

  • This or the C855 deal?

  • Trying to buy in Perth but no stock it seems.

Want the 75” C855 but for this price it’s a good deal for those who want.

Researching there’s a bit of difference between the models if you upgrade every few years but coming from a 7-8 year old TV you wouldn’t notice.
