On The Hunt for a Gaming PC

It looks like I missed the Black Friday sales, is there likely going to be specials around Christmas / Boxing Day?

Anyone recommend a site for gaming PC's that they are happy with?

Ordered from EvaTech on Cyber Monday, was delivered yesterday. Haven't set it up yet.

Good comms from Eva, delivered when promised by TNT.

They have an Xmas $250 off plus free mouse offer - not quite as good as the black Friday deal (was $500 off the Vanta model) but decent?

I'm in the same boat. Techfast and NebulaPC haven't posted a deal in over a month, they're usually the goto for cheap pre-built gaming PCs.

    • I think they've been caught out by short supply of CPU's and GPU's

Have you thought about building your own?
    What is your budget?

    • I have built them in the past, have a fairly long IT background. Having said that everything has pretty much changed since my last build and sometimes it is just easier having them built for you. If I go to build from scratch, I just need to make sure the components are compatible. I last had a Dell gaming PC, but it didn't have much ventalation and it gets pretty hot so cooling will be important.

Pcpartpicker is awesome for compatibility. Modern cases and radiators kick arse for cooling. I just finished a ryzen 7 4080 super build (last one was 8 years ago) and it was very straightforward and not dissimilar to my previous build. Have a crack. I believe in you.

    • I am really digging the nebula link that you sent - thanks! There are a few fans, hopefully not too noisey?

  • Wait for the 5000 series..

    • you mean in GPU?

NVIDIA RTX 5000 series to be announced early Jan next year, same with AMD's RX 8000 lineup. Would definitely recommend waiting until then so current pricing for current gen GPUs will drop.

You can consider building your own. I also was on the same boat but when the exact BF arrived they weren't posting any special deals. Can't wait anymore so I went to pcpartpicker to build my own. Not the best decision as the CPU hasn't even arrived yet but I'm happy that I built one with good quality components and at Nebula-esque price level. Reddit and Youtube can be your good friend when it comes to building problems

    • I am now starting to think it will be better to build ground up - prob save atleast $500 which will help keep afloat given the economy atm.

The pre-builts posted on OzB are typically better value than what you can get building yourself, evident by the PCPP lists they always provide in the posts.

You can probably get roughly the same figures if you bother going down the route of cashback, discounted gift cards, etc.
