Hi all, I noticed our website www.mylens.com.au wasn't included on the wiki for contact lenses, and I'm hoping to change that! Mylens Optical has been operational for over two years now, and we are proud to say we are 100% Australian owned, sourced and operated. Many contact lens websites have a ".com.au" address but are really based overseas, which often means slow shipping times and that the lenses are not TGA approved, therefore you can't claim them with your health fund. A lot of sites also don't give a real address or phone number. Not us! We're located in Artarmon (just outside of Sydney) and you can call us on 02 8425 7333 to speak to a real person :) We have an optometrist on site here to answer any questions you might have, and ALL your prescription contact lens (or glasses) purchases are eligible for a rebate if you have coverage for optical appliances. Also with the end of the year coming up, many health funds roll-over this allowance so if you don't want it to go to waste, order before December 31st at midnight! Until Jan 31st 2013, the promocode OZBARGAIN will get you $10 off and free shipping if you spend over $115. So if you want to support an Aussie company, join the 6000+ other customers who order from us. You won't be disappointed!

hi! We are't trying to compete with american sites… the manufactures they order from are totally different entities than J&J Australia, CooperVision Australia, B&L Australia and Alcon Ciba Australia. We're 100% aussie and order from Australian manufacturers only, and orders are shipped from Sydney. Most Australians prefer to order from companies where they can claim their lenses! But thanks for the comment :)
Im not sure what your talking about manufacture wise, but they all come from the same parent companies i.e J&J, Cooper vision, Bausch and Lomb , etc
All the lens are made from the same manufacturer in approved facilities in the USA and UK. Some are rebranded under other names but they still come from the same facilities
And im 100% sure, that the ones you buy come from the same plant.
The only difference is that the wholesalers OS dont mark up their prices 200%, and then you as a retailer mark it up another 200%, hence why contact lenses in OZ are a rip off.
Hi again,
You are absolutely right that they are probably all originally being manufactured in the same place (although I think some manufacture in a few different parts of the world, but they are still ultimately the same lenses). There's certainly no reason to assume these lenses are different or of lesser quality.
However, the manufacturers do have their own branches/head offices/sales reps in each country, so therefore the wholesale prices and sometimes even the range of products offered can be different (For example Acuvue Advance, or how CIBA only makes Violet coloured lenses in the US. Don't ask me why!). Yes, in Australia the wholesale price we pay seems to be more when compared to say over in the UK or USA, seeing as some of them sell lenses for less than we can buy them for. I can assure you our mark-up is very far from 200%! Optoms or other bricks & mortar stores might have a higher mark-up to cover costs, but we have to keep our margins extremly low to even be competitve in the online lens business. None the less, the TGA here in Australia has ruled that only optical appliances coming from the Australian manufaturers(ultimately, lenses imported by the approved company)are to be elligible for cover.
We aren't the first Australian retailer to feel the pressure of overseas price discrepancies and we surely won't be the last! These price differences can be frustrating to both businesses and customers, but that's why we cater to those who wish to support a solely Australian company, keeping the jobs and the profits within the country, and it's also why we don't seek to price match overseas websites as in some cases it would just be impossible (although we'd love to!). I hope this all makes sense, and anyone please feel free to send any direct enquiries to [email protected]. Cheers!
Distributors for J&J are restricted to selling within their local country only
so stop whinging or move to americaActually the cheaper ones are from Singapore
So i should move their you mean …. learn to read
Tell us more about AALens.
they are a company from Singapore.
They sell Contacts at wholesale prices. I seriously dont know how they make their money
Shipping is fixed at $1.50 per box and takes 7 - 10 days via registered Singapore post.
Ive been buying from them for 3 years. They always send me samples (4 days worth or so) to try. Last shipment they sent me 28 trial lens (mostly aqua dailies). Thanks!
Can I claim from Medibank Private or Bupa?
Hi, you sure can! All the info you need to claim with them will be on your invoice which will be both instantly emailed to you when you order, and included inside your box if you don't have a printer. I personally am with BUPA and use their online claiming system which works great!
What about Frank health Insurance? I have never claimed any optical items before so not sure how.
Hi there, I just double-checked with Frank (as I can't personally remember any customers mentioning them before), and they confirmed that Mylens is indeed an approved provider.
Thank you. :)
my lenses are 18% cheaper (after delivery and your coupon code) from Clearly Contacts. Where I can also claim on my health fund
Hi Jimbob, Clearly Contacts (also known as Coast Contacts) are a Canadian company, so again the manufacturers they order from are different in terms of pricing which is likely why they're cheaper on some lenses. From what I understand, since the crackdown of the TGA only a few select health funds still accept them as a provider. Our provider number isn't just picked at random for different health funds, it is attached to our optometrist Paul Sheehan, who is sitting in his office here now :) We're happy to price match on a case by case basis with 100% Aussie companies, although when you dig a bit deeper you often find they aren't Australian after all. Have a great day!
I used to be able to claim with Medibank Private when ordering from Clearly Contacts, but they're no longer a registered provider since about a year ago, as cazza123 pointed out.
lucky for me then, they're still an approved provider for my health fund
The cheapest contact lenses I've found online are from daysoft, a UK company. Quality is excellent.
I'll order in January, as I have expired my Yearly Lenses Allowance
good idea, a lot of people are holding out for the same thing and that's why we're making the code valid until the end of January. Contact us if you need help ordering!
One issue I have found is that if I have a $100 rebate on my health insurance, and I order a heap of disposable lenses, I only get $50 back.. but if I order half as much , twice, I get $100 back.. Anyone have the same issue?
Regarding the wiki, you can simply edit the page and add yours in. Everyone is welcome to contribute.
ah, great thank you!
I have been buying Ciba Focus Dailies 90 pack from Netoptical (a b&m store on the Sunshine Coast) for over 10 years. They sell them for $62 per box and $6 postage so $130 in total.
You price is $69.95 per box so with the $10 discount and free shipping Only 10 cents cheaper. Not much of a deal so I'll pass.
i used to get them for $37 from AAlens before they stopped selling them
10 cents! Yea not much of a deal on those lenses so it seems. I can see we're cheaper than them on many different ones though. Can't win em all I guess :)
Can you consider lowering the minimum purchase price from $115 to $99 (in line with your existing free delivery offer when buying over $99)? The lens that I want to buy is under $115 and therefore does not represent a deal to me without the $10 discount. When compared to Netoptical mentioned by mrsnrub above, your product that I want, excluding $10 discount, is $9 more expensive.
i doubt you can beat the everday prices off AALens. They also offer $1.50 shipping
