Was shopping for an Impact Wrench and came across this kit - seems like a good way into the Bosch Professional ecosystem with something a bit stronger than the entry level kits, for someone more interested in a proper impact wrench rather than the driver/drill combo sets or increasing their angle grinder/blower collection.
"Low stock" is noted for all store locations, but from what I can see there's plenty of stores that still have stock at the moment. Free shipping over $99.
This one has an ATL on Amazon according to the camels of 327.36 for the Skin ONLY - so for an extra 70-odd, you also get:
- Small L-Boxx carry case
- Compact charger
- 2x 5Ah batteries
For reference:
The skin ONLY is also being sold at Total Tools atm for $427
The Kit with ONE 5Ah battery instead of two (as far as I can tell - the website doesn't actually list the contents) is being sold at Tool Kit Depot for $399
450Nm should be plenty for anything automotive (I've got a 180Nm entry level kit that simply can't undo wheel nuts on older cars) and as per this review, Bosch seems to under-rate their tools rather than give inflated numbers the way the US brands tend to (note - the reviewer is using the smaller GDS18V-330 HC, not this model) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3sWToVRsH8
In all honesty, 450Nm is probably overkill unless you're working on something heavy duty or extremely old, but torque levels are switchable (if you're worried about destroying threads) and the lower powered kits don't seem to actually be any cheaper ATM. The head length is also kind of large - if you really need something compact, the Milwaulkee stubby range might be a better fit.
And it goes without saying, this shouldn't be used to tighten wheel studs. hand tighten and torque wrench to spec for that.
The next step up from here in the Bosch range is something like the 1000Nm jobbies, but unless you really need that >500Nm torque, you're lugging around an extra few kg for every job for something you're not using.
^All the torque numbers above are the real max torque ratings, not the nonsense "nutbusting" or "breakaway" torque used to inflate numbers.
Wheel nuts on cars, usually I find they are over tightened when they come back from tyre places and mechanics, I use breaker bar to loosen at home, tighten with toque wrench incase I need to change a tyre when on the road. Love my breaker bar.
