Leatherman Deals - Wait till Boxing Day Sales?

My car was broken into this week and the buggers took my Leatherman Charge (and bit kit etc) that I had for many years.

I told the cops it was worth $200 as I hadn't even looked at the current prices…but Jeezus…replacing it is a $500 expense!

I will be scouring the BD sales to get one as cheap as I can, so if you can help out a poor OzBargainer with a deal that you might see, please do!

cheers guys
Dan

nek minnut the cops take you in for admitting to carrying an offensive weapon in your vehicle without a lawful excuse.

  • How TF does a leatherman cost $350- that's just insane.

We've got a 20 year old one sitting around unused somewhere, I wonder what that model costs now.

(I've probably used it once or twice, the rest of the time I use more specific tools like pliers or screwdrivers, or a much lighter pocketknife)

    • Don't look at the price of the Arc…

Of course a multi tool like this doesn't replace dedicated tools. It's just convenience factor. Really good to have in your pocket when doing odd jobs or camping etc.

      • I find Leatherman tools so bulky and heavy that they are the opposite of convenient. Especially for hiking or camping where weight matters. I've always preferred a pocketknife.

Only place I've carried a Leatherman is the glovebox, and never had to use it.

        • It's obviously a trade off between weight, size and functionality, but the pliers would my most used tool. So pocket knife would be pretty useless for me.

          • @wombat81: Honest question here- what do you use pliers for when camping?

The only things I can imagine is to help put an awl through really tough fabric (a repair better done at home because who carries heavy duty thread camping) or pulling tent pegs (which is best done with the hook tool on a pocket knife as the tool body forms a comfortable handle).

Leathermans and camping have always puzzled me, same way that a lot of American campers carry a dedicated knife rather than blade in a multitool.

            • @rumblytangara: Well you need to remember that "camping" is an extremely general term. But all sorts of things. Cutting cable ties, doing emergency Auto electrical work, pulling splinters, mending stuff, fishing, bike adjustments and repairs plus lots of other things.

If a pocket knife works for you, great. But for me a multitool gives me more functionality options, and for me that makes the small amount of extra weight and bulk worth it.

  • Pretty cheap on Amazon at the moment, but I don't know how you'll go with importing something like this.

LEATHERMAN, Charge Plus Multitool with Scissors and Premium Replaceable Wire Cutters, Stainless Steel, Nylon Sheath https://amzn.asia/d/gEXCBy6

    • yeah that's the one that got nicked $279 + $64 for the Bit Kit. Will wait for two weeks and see what Amazon offers on BD

      • $279 + $64 = $343… How is that "$500"? lol

        • $343 is flipping bonkers anyway

        • My apologies @bobbified yeah $474 not $500. Excuse my maths.

$362 on the Australian Leatherman website + $62 for the Bit Kit + $50 for the pouch

Just get an $8 one from Aldi.

  • I have been looking for a Letherman Skeletool RX recently but again prices are a bit ridiculous: https://www.leatherman.com/skeletool-rx-464.html

    • They are a good looking piece of kit! I might replace the Charge Plus with that

  • Is this a deal?
