Was anoit to post this. Decent deal especially if you transfer to KF

    • +10

160k KF for $3500, its ok, but not especially good. Still 130k plus taxes Oz - Europe, nearly better paying $ and get status and points on top

      • +2

162k KF points are enough for two people to fly from Perth to much of SE Asia return in J. The same J flight to say Hong Kong is just under $4000 one way.

Reminder that Velocity points are being devalued - lots of negative changes in the works:

    • Hardly a material change imo

I’d happily sell my VFF points for these prices. Hopefully everyone on OzBargain is savvy enough to have earned points through credit card sign ups and not be in a position where you need to purchase them with cash

    • I’d happily sell my VFF points for these prices.

Is selling still a thing? I thought they were going after people who sell their points.

      • +1

I was saying it more from a theoretical standpoint. I’m sure people still sell points but I’ve never done so

      • +6

I got caught. Lost my account and lost all the points on there. Never again.

        • How did they find out? Can’t you just say transferring to a family member? How many transfers is suspicious?

          • @haliloo: See my post below. It wasn't even a lot that I sold 5 digits even. Sigh live and learn.

Still got the email in my mailbox which I will re read from time to time. :(

        • Interesting, how did they catch you? I'd never do it as I've been Platinum for almost 10 years and wouldn't want to risk losing the perks, but I didn't think they really went after people who sold them.

          • @jeppetto367: Yeah it wasn't even me! In 2020 during COVID all points plummeted on classified. I decided that I should sell some of mine before it went lower. Sold it to a guy , all ok and monies and points transferred. About a month later got contacted by email from velocity stating I'm being audited.
I contacted the buyer it seems that he started to hoard a bunch from othere and because of him my clean account got tainted. We could have done a fake stat Dec to prove we were related etc but didn't want to do something illegal. So lost my 6 digit balance. Mind you I never bought or sold from that account.

      • They suspended my account - 2 years after the transaction had occurred!

Check award availability first to avoid disappointment

1.4c/pp .. not a bad premium over risky classifieds sales…

    240,000 points for $3650.39
    250,000 points for $3510.00

Who would buy 240,000 points ?

  • +5

isn't buying points poor value regardless?

    • +1

It beats buying the flight with cash.

      • -2

hardly, if you're comparing with that exact flight then maybe (I still doubt it). But if I am buying with cash, then I can just look at other airlines which are cheaper and more flexible.

        • -1

I'll give you an example since you didn't provide one.

Perth to Hong Kong is about $4000-$5000 per person in business flying Singapore Airlines.

Buying this points for $3500 converts to about 161290 Krisflyer points. That is only few points shy of 2 people flying business class for the same flight.

I suggest next time before you neg me or comment to do bit of research before you reply.

          • @starburstyellow: Who said I didn’t research… in my example I was comparing a MEL → BOM economy flight which I was otherwise booking 1/7-31/7 for Singapore airlines. It costed $1300 direct booking vs 200k velocity points plus taxes so $1600+.

I didn’t neg you so no need to be a toxic. Breathe a bit mate.

            • @FrugalDealSeeker: All good, I assumed when you wrote (I still doubt it) it implies that you haven't done any research.

Wasn't being toxic at all, sorry if it comes across as such. I'd rather try to help with facts and numbers to try assist.

              • +1

@starburstyellow: Cheers mate all good :) I guess it just depends on what route you take. Sometimes purchasing points may be worth it, sometimes not. :)

    • +2

Yep, it’s a deal better suited to OzSimp than OzBargain.

  • +5

If you're buying points you're better off doing it through other programs such as Air Canada Aeroplan, lower redemption costs, lower taxes and way more partners to redeem your points on.

    • yeah but depends on what you're redeeming on. some good value rewards don't even get released to AC now

      • Very true. I see tons more on SQ than on Aeroplan for the same dates.

        • I see very few business class rewards on SQ via velocity these days. They've definitely reduced the amount available via VFF, business and other class.

          • @jecec: Yeah I get better results converting @ 1.55 to kff directly for bookings.
