Going to ask a stupid question - can I pair these with other speaker systems?
I.e. I got edifiers 2.0 speakers. And I wanted to see if I can use this sub to those.
No
Ye just realised - what a load of crap. No hard cabling.
it's like Apple. You are either all or nothing.
I bought a nice Samsung soundbar and sub last year. Pumps pretty hard. Wouldn't mind Sonos for other rooms but honestly I can't stand homogenous solutions.
I can't stand homogenous solutions.
I've found this to not really be a problem. My last stereo system I had for 20 years so a 'homogeneous' solution made no difference because I never changed it. I've now got Sonos and can't see me needing anything else ever again. The fact that they have really good portable speakers in the family (Move) means I can simply pick up some speakers and move them where-ever I am. I have Era's fixed in the living area and a couple of Moves that are either in the bedrooms, bath, office or on the balcony depending on where I am. There no other solution I found that is as easy or cost effective to get full property multi-zone sound.
@1st-Amendment: Completely agree (and I also keep my systems forever). My only issue is their amp has not been on sale for a while and I need one.
Great deal OP BTW
How's their app now? Sonos had bad press this year for an app upgrade nightmare.
It's still mostly crap. Some things are slightly reverted, but it still sucks compared to before, at least on android
Agree that the current app still sucks compared to before as well.
The screen and controls lags badly - i.e. if you change the volume on the speaker from the phone, it takes a few seconds for it to actually happen.. this was not the case previously.
Same goes for switching from speakers to speakers / songs to songs too.
If only they just switch back to the previous firmware until all these are being resolved completely
umm, what was the issue with Sonos app? I bought Sonos Beam Gen 2 and Sub Mini and have been using them for 2 weeks now without any issue with the app.
These are first my Sonos products. So, I dont know if they had any issue before but working like a charm now.
Is there any lag for you?
Changing volumes, switching songs, switching speakers, etc..
I've been using Sonos for close to 10 years now… The app upgrade has killed the experience overnight.
They are regularly releasing updates but gosh it's slow.
No lag at all. I use it both in iPhone and Android.
Honest Question:
I have had Sonos sound bars (connected to the TV ) and surround sounds for over 3 years now. I hardly ever open the Sonos app.
It's mostly used with the TV or Casting/Airplay music from the phone.
Am I missing any use case which the majority of people use Sonos for ? I honestly dint understand what the deal with the App being crap now is.
@free hot drink: I have the exact same use case.
You could use multi room speakers if buy more speakers and play same music if you have a big party in the house or something like that.
@free hot drink: More so affected for people who use it for music listening in multi room setups and may not have a remote that they use for volume control and rely on the app for full control.
I have the same issues as you when playing from Spotify. Once music is playing and you don't want to change volume it's fine.
But starting playback on any sonos speaker now takes aaaages. Most times playback 'starts' in the background a good 10 seconds before you can hear anything.
And yeh changing volume is a) patchy, as in sometimes nothing happens and b) really slow
@andresampras: Yep, some spotify playlists i select through the sonos app, the audio cuts out for 10s every second song.
Its a known issue from what iv researched and something thats been around for years
It comes and goes away, i havnt figured out what triggers it or anything.
@amityaaron: Sounds like a related but different issue - for my multi-speaker setup once playback has started it's smooth (I've just jinxed myself haven't I)
I was happily running the Arc with 2 play1’s for my home entertainment and living room speakers via the Sonos Bridge, integrated well with Alexa for the past 5ish years.
New app came out and bridge now deemed “unsupported” and so had to reset and reinstall everything again after multiple “device not found” errors. Currently it’s still a little off and I can’t get Alexa to work. App occasionally can’t find the Play1’s. So for me, the updated app was a disaster
Works well for me. No issues. People online love to get angry but realistically there is a good chance you will also have no issues. I use an iPhone - can’t speak to the android experience.

Yeah this is the problem with seeking advice from the Internet, it's mostly the noisy minority of people who are complaining which skews the data massively. You could have a million happy customers, but if you google a product review, 90% of the feedback will be from the 50 people who had a bad experience.
And theres good reason for people to get angry. It wasnt just people complaining for the sake of it, Sonos acknowledged and reverted/fixed a heap of things - for them to acknowledge this is more than just "people online love complaining". Its happening to a huge number of users.
Iv been using sonos for 10 years and the difference before and after that app update is night and day.
I dont like to complain, i also am only experiencing some of the issues that many have voiced.
but even then, its enough to make me RARELY use the app now, before, it was all i used.
I now create automations in home assistant and control the system through there…
The less i use the app the better.
There are huge issues with the app…and its really a roll of the dice whether you get affected or not.
Thank you for clearly stating this. It is certainly not the seamless experience it once was. And it affects different users in different ways. Sometimes it doesn’t bother me and other days it’s just a pain in the arse trying to get music to play the way I want it. Apparently they rushed the release of the new app to coincide with a new product, headphones I think, which could not work with the old app. They ended up with a cluster (profanity) which has done serious reputational damage to the company.
I couldn't register my new speakers with my existing system for about 6 months so they were nothing more than paperweights in a paperless world, I've been able to register them now so that's an improvement, they can make sound.
I’d be asking for compensation
It was a pretty crappy introductory experience as I bought a couple as rolling birthday/father's day presents for my Dad so he was stuck with bricks for a while but to be fair I bought them in the great Harvey Norman deal of 2023 so at least they weren't full price.
Did you call support? I had the same issue and called support and they fixed it. Can't remember what the issue was, the setup seems to be hit and miss, but once set up it's been solid.
Nah it was a documented app issue in the list of things to fix, I followed a Reddit thread. Seemed to be hit and miss if it effected you or not.
Awesome price, would have got one if I didn't already have the mini and cant justify the upgrade, hoping the ERA 300 has some great sale too…
yep, same. Just bought the mini 2 weeks ago otherwise this was a must buy
Would Topcashback/Shopback/Cashrewards/etc work with this?
But do I need a second sub…? :(
I'd be lying if the thought didn't IMMEDIATELY cross my mind when I saw this post!
Did you do it?
I got the robovac/mop posted here somewhere instead. Maybe next year it'll get a friend haha.
Decent price for the Sub, I got much better deals in the past with this and the lower models ( I have too many sonos equipment), but they keep increasing their prices with each generation so i take it right now this is a good price. In terms of the App, I use both android and iphone, I dont use the apps much becuase i have it just set up to play and leave it alone but it definitely is buggier and laggy compared to the previous app.
If you are after a white one, HN just matched the GG price
https://www.harveynorman.com.au/sonos-sub-gen3-white.html
I'd much rather spend a few extra hundred $ and get a much better sub, like the SVS SB1000 pro.
Can you connect the SB1000 pro to wireless speakers/sound bar?
It does have a wireless connection option (with an adapter), but not sure on the connection options to speakers/sound bars sorry
No point if you are on Sonos though. It is a closed system so if you have a Sonos system, you can only use their subs and vice versa.
I only have a Beam, is it worth getting the sub?
IMO yes, parents have Beam and the Sub completely transformed the experience. I have an Arc and less need for a sub, but at this price I couldn’t resist!
Thanks for the reply. As I didn't get a reply in 30min, I just went and bought one in true OzB fashion.
Thanks OP! Managed to snag a demo unit for $500 and even used 10% off gift cards on top. 😊
the beam and this sub together are a great solution for a tv surround system. i have the beam connected to the tv by tosLink and it all works great.
i never touch the app after i linked them all up.
is there much difference between all the differe t series of these? i got mine a few years ago so it may be series one… hard to believe there is a quantum difference between them all..
Are these just for the TV room or would they enhance the music experience in our lounge room where we have a one and a 5? I just love a good OzBargain bargain and the FOMO has me by the nads today.
TIA
If you have a Groupon account log in and there should be a $20 off code for $200 spend. Works on this. Does not work on Apple.
Thoughts on this versus Sonos Sub Mini with an Arc 2? I don't need insane bass. I've always preferred the thought of Mini both in terms of floor space and bothering other house inhabitants.
But, damn this is a great deal!
Was a great deal.
Thats the price these go for used, thats awesome
