Quote for Electrical Works/Smoke Alarm Seem Reasonable?

Hi guys, was hoping to gauge what you think regarding a quote I received for the following works for $462, just wanted to check do you think it is reasonable? Thanks in advance:

  • Safely isolate power supply to the switchboard.
  • Safely disconnect and remove existing non compliant circuit protection serving the 2 x power (nobo) circuits at the switchboard.
  • Supply and instal 2 x RCBO circuit protection for the non compliant circuits.
  • Disconnect and replace 2 x failed 240V smoke alarms at the bottom of the stairs/master bedroom & outside the lounge room.
  • Remove base plates from 4 x smoke alarms that have been removed inside bedrooms & lounge room and instal blank plates to cover holes within the ceiling space and make cables safe.
  • Test operation of all works.
  • Supply a certificate of electrical safety.

$420+GST seems the going rate for smoke alarms.

Seems fair. What do you think that someone else's time and materials should be worth?

In some cases it costs this just to get them to attend!

Is the part of a requirement for a rental property or just your ppor?

    I love electrical quotes…

Safely isolate power supply to the switchboard.

ie. I will flick a switch

He did say safely, so he will avoid tripping over your shoes in the process of flicking that switch.

And have a hi-viz jacket on*

        *maybe

  • Cheers guys for the reply :) Just wanted to double check the going rate these days and whether I should be getting other quotes.

I think you'll struggle to get anyone out for less than that, seems reasonable to me if it's supply and install.

  • Out of curiosity, what are the non compliant RCBOs for and why were some smoke alarms removed?

  • +1

That is a decent amount of work for that price.. or my local electricians are just massively overpriced.

Supply and instal 2 x RCBO circuit protection for the non compliant circuits.

I had this done recently with a bunch of other things, these are about $40each retail regardless of size i.e. 10amp is the same price as 32amp.

Note that replacing these means getting into the back of your meter box and it seems like everytime there is something in there that is no longer compliant or a previous electrician did the absolute minimum at the time making it harder for the next one.

  • Pretty good pricing!
