Scammed by a Chinese Seller

Hi, I recently paid (around A$900) to a Chinese seller (out of company funding but assigned for my work).

Until the money was paid, she pretended very genuine and provided a genuine tax invoice. However, once the money was paid, she did not provide any further updates. After multiple messages/emails, she responded that their manufacturing unit was damaged in recent floods, so they could not ship my material.

So I contacted my company funding team for bank details and provided them. Since then, I have not heard from them or responded to my emails or messages. It's almost 3 months now. I am still writing to her once a week for my (company) money back. Their website is still live and I am sure she might be cheating many others.

All I have is her bank account details and company information (maybe fake) found on her website.

Anything I can do (i) to get my money back. (ii) stop her in cheating others (at least through this website).

I appreciate any responses from experience.

Thanks in advance.

  • Where did you find this Chinese seller? Any particular platform? Or some random WhatsApp message?

I contacted couple of sellers online and it seems like someone has forwarded my details. But it was first time I tried this so I thought they are genuine.

Maybe start making one cent transactions to the seller, with description like "FOR DRUG SHIPMENT" and "DECEMBER MONEY LAUNDERING" and "SEXY TIME"

    A Current Affair.

sounds like it was a bank transfer?
    if so, you're sol

My company paid via bank transfer. They don’t have other options to pay as it is international transfer.

      • Next time, see if PayPal (Goods & Services) is an option. They have buyer protection which allows you to get your money back in cases like these. I’ve claimed many times as a buyer with no issues when seller ghosts me

When I make purchases from Chinese factories (often through Whatsapp) it's always done through PayPal for that extra buyer protection. For all of the factories that's their preferred choice of payment too.

That's been my experience with buying bicycle parts from factories in China - any of the decent suppliers will take PayPal.

    PChinna

User name does not check out.

    • Maybe OP is both the victim and the scammer just trolling us. ;)

      • Chinna is different from China. Chinna means “small” in my mother tongue and ☺️☺️

These things happen. Review your process on selecting business to go with. Do more thorough checks on their reputation and not just based on cheapest price.

Learned this time. They are not the cheapest but I could not find any local seller selling the perticular materials I’m after.

  • Caveat Emptor

  • The point of the scammer is to make it sound very genuine and appear real.

I mean if it looked dodgy, would you or anyone have sent the money?

It’s my company. I reported to them but I don’t know their response yet.
