OPSM Fake PHI Discount. Discount Price Same as Other Optometrists Non Discount Prices

Went to OPSM for new glasses as my PHI said PHI holders get 20% discount. (They don't ask for proof that you have PHI, so I thought this was a bit fishy as they must therefore give it to everyone.)

I brought my own frames as they didn't stock the ones I wanted. Afterwards I checked with the lens prices with a couple of local optometrists. The OPSM lens cost after the 20% discount (high end lenses with extras) was slightly higher than the exact same lenses would have cost from a couple of local optometrists at their normal price. OPSM also charged me for bringing my own frames $40 and $65 for an OCT scan which the local optometrists don't.

TLDR: OPSM more expensive that other optometrists and have a discount that brings the cost down to a slightly higher price as other optometrists for exactly the same lenses (Essilor)

    Cool story bro

  • Just so we are comparing apples to apples, are the blanks the same brand?

  • +1

Yep Essilor. Exactly the same model and coating

    • OPSM and Essilor have the same owner.

        Ah good ol' Luxottica
        Vertical integration at it's finest.

    I see what your saying.

It’s pretty wildly known OPSM are very expensive, no?

It’s like buying video games at EB Games compared to Amazon (although I’ve picked the worse day to diss on EB prices)

    • They'll swap frames and lenses within 30 days if you aren't happy no questions asked. Just done this this weekend as my new glasses pinched my nose so opted for new frames. Just had to pay a slight difference in frame cost. They re-did some lenses they ballsed up on my partners sunglasses and shipped them all the way across australia to where we were on holidays so the closest store could swap them.

  • I posted so people wouldn't be taken in by the fake discount.

    • OP should have learnt to reply to a comment

      • prolly cant see the reply button
        he does need glasses

  • Then you have to have Specsavers lenses and coatings. Should have gone to my local optometrist.

Phi discounts are a con. Even Specsavers is a rip depending on what you're after.

Grab the script and shop online.

    • Their $39 glasses including lens is actually not a bad deal.

Black Friday they had 50% off lens options. But some of it options like ultraclear is I think just rubbish.

    • How do you do the focal point thing online though?

Should have gone to online retailer such as Clearly.
