Makita 18Vx2 Brushless Powerhead Kit (DUX60PSHPT2-B) + Bonuses - $1119 (RRP $1419) + Shipping @ TradeTools

120

Had been looking at this kit at Total Tools for a while and found it today for $300 off the RRP, and with cheaper delivery (was $100 to regional Victoria, but less than $80 to Melbourne).

The standard kit includes:

  • 36V Powerhead
  • Hedge Trimmer attachment (not a replacement for a standard hedgetrimmer due to the length)
  • Pole Saw attachment
  • Extension Pole attachment
  • Dual 18V Rapid Charger
  • 2x 18V 5Ah Batteries (with battery meters)
  • Straight Shaft Line Trimmer (a bonus, but it's included in the box)

The redemption bonuses are either:

  • 2 18V 5Ah Batteries, or;
  • 18V Brushless Blower Skin

It was already a pretty compelling bundle with the bonuses, but amazing for an extra $300 off. There's other attachments available for the Powerhead too, including an edge trimmer, ground trimmer, power sweeper, power brush, pump, blower, rotary scissors and bent shaft line trimmer.

Have this unit, have commented a previous deal. Comes in handy
Good call on the hedge trimmer. Is a beast/too big to use on standard height plants

Yeah, I ended up grabbing a regular Makita Hedge Trimmer from Sydney Tools for $198.55 delivered (with bonus rapid charger and battery), which I believe is the current promo everywhere, although it seems to be sold out at most places.

      • Yeh have pinched my FiL’s, doesn’t have any use for it, but he in return needs to borrow the huge one every now n then (+pole saw)
        Works out well

I bought a regular 18V trimmer skin to use for the lower sections of my hedge before tackling the high stuff with the pole trimmer. The 36V trimmer with the extension pole added is far harder work.

      • Yeh, gotta remember to keep switching shoulders/sides

Nice to see some deals for Makita lately. They are notorious for price fixing.

    • Yep. Generally same prices everywhere, with the bonuses being relied on to make them seem better value. Hence why I thought this genuine $300 discount was worth jumping on.

Depending on the tool, you can get a good discount on some stuff by buying from overseas. I got an oscillating multi-tool from Amazon UK earlier this year for a good price.

    • At a guess, new models out sometime soon.

  • I was holding out to Christmas to see if this dropped in price. Price is ok but it was 1200ish for most of last year, now it seems 1400 is the standard price for these now

The same could be said for everything between this year and last year, we're all getting fleeced by inflated prices, which is why it's even more important to jump on stuff when it's a genuine discount (even if it's comparatively not as good value as a year ago, unless you have a time machine and can go back and get one).

The current Makita promo runs through until early next year, so I don't think we're going to see Makita push a better deal themselves, which is why I jumped on this now.

      • Agree. Wasn't having a crack either, I'll probably get total tools/Sydney tools to price match as they are local,

How do you find the machine so far ?

        • Couldn't pickup as there's no store near me, so probably won't have it until next week.

  • I resort to ALDI $199 multi function tool, exceptional value for money

    • +1 for the Ferrex multitool. Incredible value for money.

  • Currently waiting for this one (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/829562) to appear again because i dont think i really need the pole saw.

Would it be high chances this deal would come back next feb?

I have this and find it to be pretty heavy tbh. I usually grab my single battery line trimmer and hedge trimmer instead.

    • I've got a heap of bigish trees and bushes in the frontyard that I wouldn't be able to tackle any other way (technically could get on a ladder, but it's pretty uneven ground and not a lot clear space to setup a ladder). If I didn't have a clear need for something with this kind of reach, I would go for smaller single-purpose tools, but I definitely needed a polesaw and hedgetrimmer with an extension, and was in the market for new line trimmer anyway.

As for the line trimmer, I really don't have a lot of edging to do, so don't think the weight will be much of an issue.

  • Got the same unit and absolutely love it. Bought it a few years ago at a similar price to this after flogging off my petrol gear.

The line trimmers is fantastic - way more powerful than the single battery bent shaft Makita model I got with the lawn mower recently and better than my previous straight shaft makita petrol.
The hedge trimmer attachment can get heavy and unbalanced because my hedge is not tall, but long - so I'm holding the thing out sideways rather than skyward. Better use would be a handheld trimmer in my case though.
Additionally the motor has not needed a service and I don't stink like 2 stroke after using it

Little rubber hats to protect the exposed tool shaft ends break and are easily to lose.
