[SUBS, Prime] Red One - Available to Stream from December 12 @ Amazon Prime Video

1070

Posting because I don't think anyone bothered to see this at the cinemas, so it's going to a major streamer pretty quickly (it's still showing in some cinemas even now, so save your money!)

6.8/10 on IMDB

After Santa Claus is kidnapped, the North Pole's Head of Security must team up with a notorious hacker in a globe-trotting, action-packed mission to save Christmas.

    this movie is baddddddddddddddddd

Yeah, but now I can see it while sitting on my couch, and probably fall asleep during it lol

Out of curiosity I went and had a look at a bunch of other 'Tongue-in-cheek' trash christmas movies from my childhood that I loved (Ernest saves Christmas, Jingle all the way etc.) and they all have pretty horrible IMDB ratings also.. so I'll give this one a chance :P

I saw it. I didnt mind it. Its not infinitely rewatchable or likely to become a Christmas regular. But its not bad and the kids were entertained watching it.

        • Same here. Kids are 6 and 8 and they enjoyed it a lot. It was good enough for my wife and I too.

    • +7

Suitable for 5 year old kids?

Had to turn Dear Santa off, too many references to Santa flat out not being real. Of course he’s real!

    • Game over on IMAX though.

Or at least the Rock said it was… XD

    • Yeah, but my kid had a good time, so I guess it was alright.

    Haiyaaa what were they thinking

  • +4

I give it some credit… at least it's not another Christmas romance movie.
(And surely it can't be worse than Dear Santa?)

  • Must be weird doing a Christmas movie where filming ends early in the year and then the worker bees get to work. I guess they are all like that except the hallmark ones.

Also, wasn’t this always intended as a direct to Prime? Not sure why it went to theatres first. And from what I heard Johnson was a real dick with the making of this movie.

Probably got a cinema release to make sure it doesn’t get nominated for any Oscars.

  • Wife wanted to watch this , honestly it’s 90 mins of my life I won’t get back……even she thought it was bad!

    • +2

Couple of reasons she probably wanted to see it, and it didn't have anything to do with the quality of the movie :D

    • +2

So ~25 minutes of it was good then?

  • +6

Gotta be better than that Jack Black one, Dear Satan, that was absolutely horrible.

    • +2

      Dear Satan had me chuckled…

    • +1

my 10 year old thought it was awesome

I don't usually comment about whether sub's should be deals or not but op says no one watched this movie at the cinema and linked to a 6.8 star review but still posted as a deal.

      Nice and contradictory? :)

Point was, it may be seen as enjoyable when viewed for 'free' (most people here have Prime for free shipping etc), and in the comfort of your own home. It's also a cost saving as not having to view it in the cinema, but also being able to view it over the Christmas period

To show how much the critics and the general population differed on this one, RT has a 31% critics score but 90% Audience score

      • Yeah I just guess it shows why these posts can be controversial and cause heated discussions. But it's fun to read the comments either way.

    • I just thought it was to have a bit of fun reading the commentary.

6.8 on IMDb is actually quite strong of a score for there. Only 7 films in history have a score of 9 or above on IMDb.

Not saying the film is good because I haven't seen it, just thought it was worth saying.

Luckily I checked here as I was about to buy tickets to it

  • +5

They invested waaaay too much money into a Christmas movie. Movies like this absolutely do not deserve a $350m budget

    • +1

You know that's all A-Lister pay offs and tax avoidance though.

  • +4

I think I'll stick to Violent Night and Die Hard 1/2 thank you.

  • -3

Ah, its that time of the year again, when Brothelwood and its overlords, J's, show just how much they love Christmas, so typical….

  • Will Nosferatu (2024) be next, soonish? Anyone in the knows?

    • +3

It doesn't release in cinemas till January 1st (December 25th in the US)…

This post is the only marketing I've seen of this movie (I've never even heard of it before today).

  • Still find the naming of this baffling, as it really sounds like it'd be a sequel to Red Notice (but i guess everybody is too busy watching that on every screen they have to watch this).

    Great movie for streaming!

  • +1

nobody smelt what the rock was cooking…

  • I saw it at the drive in, honestly wasn’t a bad kid’s movie. Entertaining enough and would be good to stream at home if you haven’t seen it

  • 31% on rotten tomatoes.. No thanks

  • Yay, I've been waiting to see this without giving any additional money and leaving my home to see a movie that is probably going to be horrible.

  • "Filming ran into issues with Johnson, who was an average of seven to eight hours late to film his scenes and missed several days of shooting. These delays reportedly increased the budget by $50 million to a total of $250 million"

  • +1

These streamers seem to be playing celebrity bingo at the expense of any actual entertaining content. (yes we always knew this was a streaming movie)

  • If you liked other Jake Kasdan movies, you’d be OK with this one.
