Office 2021 or

Could I get your views please.

I currently have Office 2021 installed on my desktop. I recently purchased Office 365 as well.

I use Outlook ( part of Office 2021) daily for my business which is home based. The desktop Outlook has a number of email accounts created, some are client emails.

Would it be better to replace Office 2021 completely on my desktop with Office 365?

Does the Office 365 Outlook if installed on my desktop have the same look and feel as Outlook that is part of Office 2021?

Advantages using Office 365??

  • I use office 2019 and won't have office 365 anywhere near my PC.

Why did you buy 365 if you hadn't already decided it was 'better' for you than 2021?

    • To share with family and staff .

      • I don't think you can share the O365 account unless you purchased volume license. I mean technically you can but you will breach MS licensing.

a family licence can be shared between 6 family members…

office 365 family cannot be shared with staff, only family members.

    Advantages using Office 365??

You enjoy the privilege of supporting Microsoft by paying an annual fee compared to the grossly unfair once-off fee for Office 2021. Shareholders will thank you.

I'll always go the standalone Office VS 365.

(profanity) all these subscription services, they're shit. You're not getting anything special with a newer version of Word or Excel besides some security updates perhaps.

And then they raise the price every few years. Just a shitty service.

The issue with OP being stuck with Office 2021 is that clients or partners that uses Excel 365 will have access to newer formulas and it wont work when the file is being shared with OP. This issue will get worse over time as the functionality gap between 365 and 2021 widens.

A couple years ago, I still remembered someone complained that my Excel file was broken and full of ERR. What we realised is that the company was still using 2019 and it couldnt read the XLOOKUP formula. This was a fairly large financial company managing billions. At that time, it was cited that security was the reason why they didnt upgrade. They did eventually after a while, probably after multiple complaints from various external stakeholders.

So, regardless of what everyone says regarding MS365 and the subscription side of things, I don't think it is that bad when you can get Family for $179 for 6 family members. Each family member can have 5 devices using 365 and 1TB of Storage each. It's $0.49 a day for 6 people. People spend more on Coffee every day!

Do the upgrade to Outlook 365. You won't have bugs like previous versions of Outlook (there was one with a big indexing issue of emails) and enjoy the newer features.

Overall, if you have access to 365, do the complete upgrade for everything. If you every cancel, you have your outlook PST files so should be able to go back to 2021 or so.

I agree, i think it is worth it just for the storage space alone. I also think it is worth it for Teams and Sharepoint which is used daily in my work. Having the ability to have multiple people work on a single PPT, Word or Excel file (with version history) is quite useful actually.

        Agreed.

Teams and SharePoint are not included in Family, only the monthly MS365 with mail etc which is a minimum $22.44 per user, per monthly (when paid monthly) for Standard Business.

Like Google Docs has provided for years………

I see thank for pointing that out. Sharepoint not included in most basic Office plan then.
