Transiting in Guangzhou Baiyun Airport (CAN) - Your Recent Experience?

Hey guys, have an upcoming trip to the UK, going with China Southern through Guangzhou this time, with 7.5 hours stopover on the way there.

Arriving 6:05pm, leaving 1:35am (Terminal 2).

Is there anywhere we can relax with the kids, before going with a lounge?

If we end up going for the lounge, from my understanding there are only 2 lounges that can be accessed - the China Southern International Pearl Lounge, and then the Premium Lounge.

If you have used either of them recently, how was the experience? Is one better than the other?

Mainly looking for showers (apparently they're free?), as well as an area where we can lie down for a bit to get some rest.

Thanks so much in advance!

one of my mate transited through them 15 years ago during New Year to save on airfare and his story was the airport was so barren, no aircon in the middle of winter, him and a couple of travellers literally hugged the huge lcd screens around the transit zone to stay warm. But they probably improved it a fair bit since.

my daughter was there in March for an 8 hour lay over .

she said it was fine (she's travelled extensively) and said there was several cafes and relatively comfortable benches you could lie down on.

she just watched some movies on her tablet. walked around a lot. chatted to other travellers.

The airport is clean and modern but fairly vanilla, so there's not a heap to do to fill your time. If you can keep entertained with an iPad, then you can potentially have a wander around before plonking down somewhere quiet for a few hours. There are a handful of restaurants available too and prices are reasonable as there's a "city prices at the airport" policy in place at CAN. Overall, pleasant and calm even if you don't grab a lounge.

In terms of the two lounges:
    - the China Southern one has a superior food offering (including a rotating selection from the live cooking station that they fire up sporadically during dinner) and better showers (though drainage seems to be a problem no matter where you go), but can get busy. There is a movie room of sorts towards the back of the lounge that doesn't fill up as fast.
    - the airport run lounge is pretty much the opposite - quieter space but with an inferior food offering and shower (e.g. shampoo etc are usually just in regular pump bottles you find in supermarkets)

  • Thanks for the replies guys.

Has anyone done either the Pullman or Novotel?

    Whats your experience been like?
