Gifts for Work Colleagues

Hi

I buy gifts for my work colleagues (about 35) I have sorted some - but I still have about 12 for Males 30's and 40's. Looking to spend about $10.00 each ($5.00 would be better)

I am seeking recommendations that do not come across as just 'doing it for the sake of it'.

I have looked for Whiskey Stones - but not sure they are all drinkers
I already have Marvel Christmas Socks that go into the 'Santa Sacks'

Any links or suggestions would help.

I have OnePass and Amazon Prime - but would need delivery before 18th

Regards
SD

Are you out of your vulcan mind!?

Assuming you are maybe this - generic enough for male or female of any age:

    • Thanks Xyzzy

Might be a HR breach - implying they are smelly!

      • If you know some of them travel, this would be an ideal gift.

I could not imagine purchasing gifts for 35 people individually (perhaps unless I was an executive and they were all my staff).

If they are peers, I would imagine that something like a box of chocolates to pass around the office would be a more appropriate gift?

In general, I would prefer to receive less gifts, not that I don't appreciate the thought, but that most generic stuff that's <$5 tends to not be particularly useful, durable, sentimental, or meaningful.

If you really wanted to show appreciation, I've always found that a card with a thoughtful message which I can then display on my desk (for example) would be much more meaningful, and just a better gift.

Glad I don't work in your office.

    • Why?

      • +4

I don't want your junk or your gift and then feel bad that I have nothing to return. I'll save my gifts for people that I genuinely care about.

        • +1

          Okay!!

Funny about that - all the people in the office thought it was fantastic and this year they are doing Secret Santas where the year before it was not even recognised.

          • @Sainter Dad: What sort of Secret Santa are you running if you have to buy gifts for all colleagues instead of just 1?

            • @tabz: @tabz - They run Secret Santas - I just give everyone a small gift.

              • +3

@Sainter Dad: You might want to take the hint if they re organising gift giving to avoid 35 staff feeling obligated to get you a gift.

    pokemon cards.
eb games has booster packs for 5 bucks

That's insane. You're just throwing away money needlessly.

And then you put in the line that you don't want to
"come across as just 'doing it for the sake of it"
    When you very clearly are.

    • Absolutely not doing it for the sake of it - I am just looking for advice

    • Or Fleshlight. same same.

    Scratchies?

    • Not sure they have Itchies!

Prefer not to just do Scratchies.

    • +1

I worked with a colleague who walked around handing out scratchies on Xmas eve, it was a good vibe because it was trivial enough in value that people didn't feel obligated, and was a nice conversation starter "if you win you can take us all to lunch" type things.

These are fantastic books, based on the latest neuroscience, positive psychology and lifestyle medicine research. Written by an Australian academic who communicates so well, and really has a passion for everyone living their best life!

Fitting your budget, they're available for $6 each, when you buy in a sharing pack of 5 for $30.

Here's the ABC shop in Victoria in case it's near you, to save on shipping:
    141 Central Rd
    Nunawading, VIC, 3131

If shipped to you, here's the price per unit including shipping when ordering online:
    5 = $9.29 ea
    10 = $7.87 ea
    15 = $7.24 ea

Some great tips for helping your colleagues live their best lives - which make for an even better workplace.

Good on you @Sainter Dad for being so thoughtful with the gifts you're purchasing for your colleagues!

A distinct possibility - I can possibly do Nunawading

  • You must not pay these people much if they give a shit about $10 landwaste.

    • +3

LOL @ Mechz - so are the following considered $10 Land Waste?
      - A nice Scented Candle and Christmas Socks ($5 for the Candle $1 for the socks?
      - A Full sized Desk Mat for your mouse ($2.00 last year at a local computer store)??
      - A set of Soccer Whiskey Stones for a Spirit Drinker/Soccer Fan ($6.99 a set - Buy two get one free) ?
      - A couple of Stinky Diffuser ($3 available at any good Discount Store) in a persons preferred scent?
      - An AFL Plushie of their team for those who are serious supporters (12inch tall found for 60c at Coles 6 months ago)?
      - A Nicer NeckChain with scope for your ID Badge as opposed to a Lanyard ($1 at Vinnies, $10 elsewhere - in a nice Necklace Box) with a pair of Christmas Socks
      - A Trivia Game on a Topic they are interested in?
      - Some Sterling Silver Earrings that I acquired with Swarozski Crystals in them?
      - A Swarovski Tree of Life Pendant?

They don't know I am an Oz Bargainer - I got told off by someone thinking I had spent $30 on each of them……

Oh - I do not pay them - they are COLLEAGUES - NOT EMPLOYEES.

      • +3

Yes, all of these would be close to worthless to most people.

      • It's all junk champ. Stop kidding yourself.

        • Maybe get that as a mini tattoo or t shirt.

  • +4

Yeh I don’t get it. Your just buying junk which people will throw out.

  • These Red Rooster candles are $29.95 for three. Fits the $10 per person budget.

    This just screams narcissism.

Flags for attention-seeking and manipulation. Gift giving binds people into a social contract fraught with etiquette and reciprocity.

    Nothing altruistic about this.

  • +2

Buy a massive jigsaw, divide in 35 equal parts.
Team bonding or Lord of The Flies ahead.

    • Love this idea!!!!!

      • If you do it, hold one piece back.
        No wait, just don't.

  • How about this list for example:
    https://www.davidjones.com/food?src=fh&sort=-current_selling…

There are many things that people may never try previously.

    • Thanks - worth considering.

      • If you have many David Jones accounts, you could get $10 welcome rewards, $10 birthday rewards, or $15 rewards this month only for each account, so free shopping ;-)

I have collected several fancy chocolates under $10 for free. Later I'll collect chocolate and other food under $15 for free :D
