  • Would prefer a 100" tv at this price (or cheaper) personally.

I got an 85 inch tv for $2100. I was going to grab something like this but then couldn't be bothered with the setup and fuss, and usually more expensive.

The difference between 100 and 120 is substantial. If you want 120" there is no way a tv can do it for a good price (without mentioning the hassle to move it)

    • Horses for courses.

    • Yeah with the biggest TVs fallen so far down in price, you can now get a 100" OLED for only $3500, if you don't mind a cheap brand like Hisense.

Still $5000 or $100000 for the good ones, though.

These short throw lasers with ALR screens look incredible, and I hope projector tech improves even further, and prices fall more, but in 2024, projector is no longer the only sensible choice for these big screen sizes, if you have a budget over $1500 or so.

Not OLED for $3500. Most likely QLED.
But TV of any sort wins hands down.

        • Oh you're right.

          Stupid deliberately-deceptive marketing terms.

But in that case TV doesn't win "hands down" then.

OLED has some advantages over a short throw laser with ALR, but normal LCD (including QLED)? Not so much.

(That's not even considering the people who have a room large enough for 120" screens, seems projector is still a winner for them).

  • It really depends , I recently bought a lifestyle projector from AliExpress (a good one) and that can project up to 300 inches and you can take it anywhere.

How shit is the resolution though

You tell me…. I got the Chinese version called Vidda for $2700 …. Don’t know why im getting negged…

Me either, I'm impressed you dropped $2.7k on an Aliexpress projector though, that's some faith!

@Ham Dragon: Well it actually is Hisense so brand wise not a random brand, but also i did my research on which shop to buy from, from other people around the globe before i jumped in. For the money I saved, i was willing to take a gamble and so far its a win.

@Stuj: Warranty is the issue here.

              • +2

@Dienk: As i said, im happy for that risk

                • +2

@Stuj: Mate if it works power to you. I am considering a STP for my den but wifey is anti big screen, she claims my 55" Viera plasma is too big…

Seems like a great price with free screen, but no 3D support according to website link, which is one of the drivers for getting a UST projector over a TV

    • +1

      No 3d support, no deal

    • +1

Do they still make 3D blurays? I remember having it on my old plasma but it was underwhelming at best
