Seoul? Am I able to get a signature from the joker president on my boarding pass as a souvenir?

  • +9

Seoul, your next destination to experience martial law ?

    Jokes aside, pretty good price.

    • +2

For 3 hours max, and it was overnight.

But you can experience the South Korean protests… With music concerts included and fun for the whole family, if it's anything like the 2016 impeachment protests.

  • +4

None of these sales ever comes during school holidays of course…

Going to Seoul this Jan for few days as part of my Japan winter tour…Stuff the Martial law, nothing can stop me:)

not sure the roughly 16 hours each way would be fun in economy

    • +2

There actually aren't any nonstop options from Melbourne. From Sydney there are, but it's just wether you value (or have) time or money more! Same dates as in the example search for nonstop from sydney are $1075 on Jetstar, $1335 on Asiana, and $1384 on Korean; and take just under 11 hours.

China Southern economy is better than Jetstar business class.

That's true. And Guangzhou Airport is quite good, premium lounge is amazing.

      • -1

        Premium lounge is very average

      • Premium lounge is a rip off

not in my experience their air con was broken in my 9 hour flight and the food is mediocre at best

      • I'm sorry you had that experience 😢
I've had that and other equally as bad experiences on most airlines that I've been on.
The first time I travelled to China, I flew with China Southern. I remember being uneasy about flying with them, possibly based on many people's negative views on China and their communist regime.
Those fears were unfounded and I've since flown to China many times since, not just with China Southern, but also China Eastern and Air China, all with good experiences.
Of course I'm not niave to think that I will always have I'm sorry you had that experience 😢

I'm not.that niave to think that will always be the case, as mechanical things can break down, flight delays are inevitable etc, with little or no warning, so that wouldn't put me off.
I flew to Seoul with Qantas with my wife earlier this year with our 🚴 on board to 🚴around the country. We had some bad experiences with Qantas on those flights, but that wouldn't put me off flying with Qantas again.
We want to 🚴 in Korea again, so I'm booking flights later today thanks to this great deal. Thanks op.
As for the food, some may not like the food they were served, whereas others might like that exact same food. That's fine either way.
For me, I was 😀 with the food I was served on China Southern.
For me, food is a a fuel.
I'd much rather eat simple food than a 'fancy' meal at a top restaurant. That's me, that's fine. We're all different.
        Cheers, David

i mean maybe next time it’ll be better but I usually go with Singapore Airlines to my destinations and their prices arent that much higher but the service I received was much better.

another thing with China is no online features, I tried signing up but it wouldnt let me so I had to call them up to confirm my seats, they even moved my seats later too without any emails….so whats the point of booking, couldnt sit with my family

With Singapore its so much easier, last time I even upgraded a seat with just $200 more a week before the flight and have to say it was worth it.

          • @Freestyle: Thanks for your comments and for sharing your airline experiences.
            😀

            • @davebern: Hapy you get to take advantage of these prices and thanks for your feedback :)

Is it possible to spend a few days in Guangzhou in either legs?

    • +1

      same question.

    • +1

I don't think so, but you can force a long layover (12 hours or so) where you can go check out the city between flights. Just click around on Google Flights to see which days have the long connection

      • +1

Just forget google and use the multi city on the airlines website, and yes it’s possible to have weeks in China on the way over or way back, or both

    • i’ve had 18 hour transit in Singapore and it was pretty easy to get out and enjoy the City for a bit, check online if China has much restrictions and if you can force a long layover

  • what's the visa requirements?

    • +2

For South Korea? There are none for stays of 90 days up until Dec 31 2024. After this date, you just need to get a K-ETA, you can apply online and it costs around $12. It still only applies to stays of up to 90 days

    • +1

If you hold Australian passport, you can stay in China for 30 days without a visa.

  • Hey OP.

Is China Southern starting direct flight from Adelaide to Guangzhou on the 12th Dec?

    • I have read that but can't seem to see where they are bookable yet - keeping an eye out

  • Great airline.

    • -2

Yeah amazing! They changed our flight 1 week before departure and added extra stop, told us at check in that on Thursdays Guangzhou Airport doesn’t forward your luggage to Melbourne so you have the pleasure of checking it back in where they find a kids scooter and can’t believe there were no drugs in it, then questioned our 700g overweight which was fine at the initial check in Frankfurt! Not to mention there is one passport control control in Guangzhou but 37 cameras on you then you have to pleasure of surrendering your fingerprints and enjoy the mediocre onboard service because 1 extremely hard working attendant gets to serve an entire block of the plane. My favourite is the look on the attendants face when you ask for alcohol.

My Adl to CAN flight on 26th Dec just got cancelled. Good luck flying with them 😊

    • my experience flying with them has been mediocre at best so wouldnt recommend them.

      • I've flown with them many times, and super long haul, Sydney to Europe. Ive never had a problem with them, especially at the prices I've paid.

  • They lost my luggage in 2015, never received any contact from the airline or airport since the form was submitted.
Not too bad if you don't have any check-ins
