AmEx Statement Credit: Spend $400 or More at NRMA, Get $100 Back @ American Express

600

Could be useful for those that:

a) already get their policies via NRMA or their renewals will be cheaper via NRMA (always compare your insurance quotes!!) and;
b) need to make that payment in the next few months
c) should work with any other payment discount applies e.g. $100 promo code that comes around every once in a while.

Take note of exclusions listed in T&Cs below

Initially I was thinking it's a pretty decent discount on CTP insurance, however looks like it's excluded as part of the T&C - but your experience may vary - as like the gift card/ merchant scenario for other offers, amex may not be able to differentiate what you purchase. One for someone to try!

Offer
Spend $400 or more, get $100 back

Got 5 bonus points per $1 spend offer instead

    • Strangely, I have received that offer twice on my AMEX:

      • The first offer ends 07 Feb 2025.
      • The second offer ends 21 Feb 2025.

      🤷‍♂️

      • Same, I wonder if it's a mistake and should be the cashback?

      • Double dipping

    • Is that on Qantas? Probably because they have their own insurance

  • I got the 5 points/$1 offer on my Velocity Escape Amex, but not that offer or this one posted by the OP on my Elevate Amex (probably because I used it to pay for my home insurance a few months ago)

Looks like only new policy valid

    • Reading the fine print, this is my understanding as well

      • It's a bit convoluted. But I read the following as

Excludes policies in New South Wales (NSW), Queensland (QLD), Tasmania (TAS), or the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) that were last renewed before 1st July 2024.

        • New policies / renewals after 1 July is valid.

Excludes policies in New South Wales (NSW), Queensland (QLD), Tasmania (TAS), or the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) that were first purchased before 21st April 2024 and not yet renewed.

        • And this is to capture those who are playing monthly on a current policy before 21st April, and disallow then to make a lump sum payment on their policy for the credit.

        Aka new renewals are fine?

        • I still think it applies to new policies only and it's just a confusing way of saying new policies (with a new policy number) only. My comp insurance is due February 1 (which was renewed before July 1 2024). Points three and four also speak of new policies i.e. no renewals. Unless you have difficulties or want to apply a loyalty discount (as in my case last year when I also bought my green slip), are you really going to call a NRMA consultant to renew your insurance?

I assume someone who had a comp insurance policy due June 17 2024 but didn't renew would have to take out a new policy rather than renewing with the same policy number.

How would Amex be able to determine if the payment is for a new or existing policy for the purposes of the points or cashback?

          • +1

@AKJJ: No way Amex can tell. Just like how they can't tell if you've bought gift cards (current Officeworks statement credit deal)

            • +1

@ilubbargains: NRMA have a new system for polices after 21/04/2024 with renewals moved to it from 01/07/2024 so they will know as those policies before these dates are billed on an old system which would apply to monthly payments.

Policies renewing on the new system have a new policy number and seem to be included.

    • possibly like their no giftcards on other shops, they say it, but don't enforce it.

  • bloody hell i just renewed my policy in Nov grrrrrr

    • +1

Don't feel too bad; it seems that this offer is only for new policies

      • i noticed it includes home insurance so i can go back to NRMA if i really want to get this deal in Jan when mine comes up for renewal

  • Didn't get it on 2 qantas ultimate.

  • got the 5 points/$1 offer

  • Didn't receive this offer at all.
Maybe it's because I've always used Amex to pay for my NRMA insurance.

Got a quick quote of my car insurance that's about to expired. It is almost double the fees renewal offered by Woolworth.

  • paid $850 excess a few weeks back.. wondering if they'd be able to refund it and accept split payments over phone.

I don't think Amex has a way to find out if the payment was for new policies or existing renewals or excess

  • Can I cancel my policy and reapply for new one?

    Good for ctp

    • Excludes CTP, MAI, Landlord Insurance, Holiday Rental Insurance, Business Insurance, Residential Strata, Travel Insurance and all other insurance policies/payments that are not listed as valid for offer.

      • -2

Im sure it will work ;)

No way of AMEX knowing what service you bought, then its a breach of privacy

Again, buy CTP at your own risk

    • This is probably what I'll end up doing as my CTP comes for payment in March, so I'll just pay it early. I doubt they attribute - hopefully someone tests it between now and then and reports back ! Ha

      • Ours in April but ill pay it early :)

  • Q: AM payment via Paypal, is it qualified?

    • +2

      No

    • Reading the condition… it must be paid via phone call and speak to a Customer Service officer

Offer only valid for phone payments at 132 132 where customer opts in to speak to an NRMA Insurance consultant to make payment over phone for selected policies (listed above). Excludes any other payments made over phone.

  • Grrrrrrrrr I renewed my policy last night at 9.01pm!!

  • Would be great if NRMA wasn't 2x the price of RAC WA…

  • Offer only valid for phone payments at 132 132 where customer opts in to speak to an NRMA Insurance consultant to make payment over phone

Just did online without noticing the phone requirement

    • +1

You should be fine - headlines offer is

Spend $400 or more, get $100 back
Save the offer to your eligible Card and spend $400 or more, in one or more transactions, va phone, in-app, or online at NRMA Insurance by 21/02/2025 to receive one $100 credit.

    • Also take a screenshot of the offer (if you need to escalate) - just in case!

  • Thanks OP. I took comprehensive car for the first time with NRMA, adjusted agreed value to be exactly over $400, Called NRMA paid over phone with Amex after saving the offer to the card. Hopefully I've ticked all the boxes to get the $100 off. Oh I opted for plus as well

    • I was in the phone with NRMA Insurance and told they only accept Visa and Master Card. :)

      • They've been taking Amex since September or so; paid my home insurance with my Amex instead of going via PayPal which is what I'd been doing in the past

      • -1

I was in the phone with NRMA Insurance

… maybe if you get on the phone with NRMA Insurance, you'll have better luck.

      • I was in the phone with NRMA Insurance

Damn you player. You were in the phone

  • why $400!! I've only the NRMA road service to pay this month

    • +1

Because it's NRMA insurance, not NRMA roadside assistance.

  • I've often found the NRMA more expensive than other insurers, so I guess it kind of evens out?

    • Only if you end up getting cashback

    • +1

The one benefit I find with NRMA is it has a more generous condition for unlisted occasional driver.. most other insurers don't define the term and when asked they verbally clarify it means driving the car no more than once a year. Pls check with your insurer.

  • Thanks OP

  • Useless for VIC?

  • +1

wtf NRMA CTP website doesn't accept amex

    • +1

That's probably why CTP is excluded in the AMEX offer T&Cs

  • +2

Just paid my NRMA car comprehensive insurance online and received email from Amex hours later :

You just used your NRMA Insurance Amex Offer.
Thank you for using your NRMA Insurance Amex Offer with your Card ending in xxxx.

If your transaction meets the offer terms, your redemption should appear on your statement within 15 business days (however it can take up to 90 days from offer end data).

    • New policy or renewal?

      • +1

        New policy switched from AAMI

        • Well you're guaranteed the credit then. It's more policy renewals that no one's 100% sure on going by the wording

          • @kerfuffle: Yes. Received the credit $100 within 48 hours in Amex statement. I got one more Amex card but seem like can’t use it for CTP.
