as stocking stuffers, toys to donate,

Or sell and make a profit off them @Clear

    • You could get lucky but all the profitable ones are likely to have been cleaned out in store

Can someone please explain this to me? I saw a guy the other day who clearly didn't work at Kmart but looks to have known the guy who was working there, opening and going through the new hot wheels boxes on the wheelie rack thing.. this was at about midnight too…

        What are they looking for?

        • +2

Read the rest of the comments.

          • @Gehirn: I read them.. They're vague with more of the same story. WHAT are they looking for, a rare hot wheels car? Ok.. what is it? Are there more than one? Obviously I don't know because it's never on the rack so I've never seen it, so what's being taken at midnight on a Sunday that a guy is in Kmart scouring hot wheels boxes?

Years ago I used to work at a store which stocked them and used to have something similar.
Certain people would come in see the new box ask for it to be opened, I'd leave them with the box they would fill the hook with the ones they didn't care about and then buy the special ones they wanted.

On the side of their packets there is a mark, number or something which tells someone how rare it is and they buy it from that.

    • $3 a piece.

  • Is there any way to choose which one you get? Been looking for the RS2 in my local woolies…

    • +2

Best to call and go into store if you're after a specific design.

      • +3

I'm lazy and have OnePass so was hoping I didn't need to deal with the horde at my local Westfield.

        • Same. I just ordered 5 so luck of the draw. The little guy will enjoy regardless.

        • +2

I ordered 20 anyway - I highly anticipate many many double ups.

Will be perfect for party favours, saved $20. Cheering.

          • @Jimothy Wongingtons: I brought 5 last year and 3 were dups of a motorbike! unbelievable

            • @tweety96: Yeah I don’t think the literal kids that staff the Kmarts really care…

Plus sometimes at my local all there will be left is the more unpopular ones like the bikes or boats - not like the staff pickers got a choice then

Are these any good for a 1.5 year old? Or wait another year?

    • +13

My 1 year old loves them, though may be either devastated or thrilled by the odd plane that's not specifically a 'car' depending on the day's mood.

      • +1

Haha you absolutely nailed this description!

    • +3

From 3 I think was the right age - developed motor skills, and less likely* to put into mouth

    • +5

My kid when he was 9 months old, loved these. Always use to sort them in line. Later I came to know it's a behaviour for autistic kids. He got diagnosed after 6 month.

      • +4

Same mate, but with animal toys :)
Hope you're journey is going well with navigating this and you have the supports in place, can be tough!

    • +1

Every kid is different, but mine has been obsessed with these since about 1yo. Never had any problems.

    • My boy is almost two and loves em. I use a big piece of cardboard as a ramp off the sofa. Every time a vehicle gets to the bottom I go "woooaahh". Gets him hyped.

  • +5

The other week I saw a couple of guys raiding boxes of these from a cage before they even got put onto the shelves in Big W. Hot Wheels collectors are animals + weird

    • +3

Up there with the Lego minifig guys and the Pokémon/yu gi oh players (always see the toy section in my Coles raided with ripped open card boxes).

      • Grown men too. smh

        • to be fair the minifig guys i usually see at kmart when i take my kids are usually the same guys…and i prob suspect they are somewhere on the spectrum to be fair (but hey i prob am too!).

there is also a kind of well dressed guy i see every few weeks that sits there with an app on phone scanning barcodes on minifigs and sifting through. I wonder if he has some kind of knowledge of the restock cycles.

          • +2

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Haha I did that but only because I wanted two M-Tron ones and two Blacktron ones. The rest were not as good and the random nature just causes fights between my kids.

            • @LuckyDrew: I guess it IS a bit of a can of worms

I dont mind if it’s sparingly and stay out of the way, but the way the Kmart is designed at my local , the guys that usually are there will literally spend ages blocking the aisle with stock all over the floor as well as they sort.

          • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: I did that for the D&D minifigs.

          • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: At Target i heard some high school kids commenting on pokemon cards being pillaged. Surging Sparks I believe.

    • Rare cars (usually 1 per box) go for $100+ so are they weird or smart ?

      • +2

a little weird, but not as weird as people paying over $100 for a Hot Wheels car, I guess?

      • +1

Depends how much you equate your time to an hourly rate I guess - though the dopamine rush is priceless I bet

    • +2

Please don't group all "hotwheels collectors" as one. It's like any community you have the good and bad. I personally collect them too but I do it as I am a car guy and like to display my hotwheels cars in dioramas and miniature display garages, I don't do it to resell or try to make money on them (the guys that do that are the animals/weird ones).

Finally a car I can afford.

Why don't you stock Disney Cars again Kmart

  • Bought ten of these same time last year online, only got two of the same car, not bad.

  • I loved these as a kid .. this seems like the exact price I paid back then

  • i bought 50, christmas pressies done

    • Haha I did the same!!

      • Where do you stop like, 100? 50 sounded good.

  • Thank you got 25, Little boy will be happy this xmas

  • Awesome thanks. Just bought my little one a Hotwheels track for Christmas. This is perfect to go alongside that.

  • Thanks got some for my kid.

  • Don't forget places like Target price match. They have a 20% off sale but this is much better.

  • Just picked up a bunch from my local kmart.

To be fair, it looks like the display had already been raided - but the offerings were pretty rubbish. Good enough for my toddler, but I have found that the selections in previous sales have been better than this one.

  • Nice find thanks

  • Got 5 runway res-Q last year.
    Gave them all out lol

  • can't believe I can get a $1 item delivered for free. what a world we live in.
