Help please! Windows 7 64 bit drivers for HP Deluxe Webcam KQ246AA

Hi all,

I have recently reinstalled Windows on my computer. I can't seem to find drivers for my webcam anywhere. I called HP on various numbers and contacted them via email. They can't seem to help me. There are no drivers for this webcam on the Australian HP website. There are CDs available for ordering on the HP US website, but it is not available for shipping to Australia.

I bought this webcam from this deal:

I am just wondering if anyone has a copy of the CD somewhere in your garage and is willing to dig it out and send me the contents electronically? I would be willing to return the favour for anyone in the same situation when they eventually reinstall Windows on their computer.

I could fork out the money to buy a webcam, but I think chucking out a perfectly good webcam is against the mantra of the community here. :)

  • I suggest finding the camera in device manager. If it is USB (likely) it will have a 'VID' (vendor ID) and 'PID' (product ID). As HP likely don't make it just give it a product name you can use these IDs to find out what it actually is and get a driver.

Also, how did you reinstall windows? If you used the on disk recovery it should restore the driver for you anyway.

    • Ok, a bit more to the story. Windows did pick up the webcam and installed a generic Microsoft drivers for it. But when I start skype, it says "Can't start video. Try closing other programs that might be using your webcam."

Great minds think alike Bruce. I did try that. I looked it up and download the drivers from the manufacturer's website. It was made by some unfamiliar(to me) Chinese manufacturer. But when I start Skype, it says the same error message as the generic Microsoft driver. I haven't experienced this before using the HP driver though previously.

      • So what are the PID/VID? And can't you recover from the on disk recovery?

        • USB\VID_0C45&PID_62E0&REV_0000&MI_00

I lost the CD. And it is an USB camera bought separately from my PC, not sure what the on disk recovery is?

        • Is this the driver you tried:

          http://www.sonix.com.tw/sonix/product.do?p=SN9C255

That is what I think it is.

it is an USB camera bought separately from my PC

.. which was the missing information. Basically all branded computers for a long time now have the Windows install with all drivers (and other rubbish) on a 'hidden' partition. You press a magic key at boot time and the whole system is restored to new out of the box state. BTW the only mention of that webcam by HP I saw was inbuilt into a laptop.

    • Thanks for your input. The link you gave me links to HP UK site, again asking me to order a CD, after I select the operating system. I don't think they ship to Australia.

        • I tried it, regardless of which file you choose on the list, it forces you to download a piece of software called Driver Detective. Sounds a bit dodgy to me, do you have an experience with that software?

        • +1

Yeah dont dl that its spyware
