So I bought Xenoblade Chronicles recently (a bargain too imo, at $47 from…EB Games, can you believe it?). On opening the game case, I found the manual had been ripped a little, but that didn't matter much. What did matter to me apart from the game itself was the Club Nintendo code.
For anyone who has used/uses the Club Nintendo Australia reward system, the reward catalogue is quite lacking and rarely has good stuff to get (Golden Nunchuck and SNES Wii Controller come to mind). So I go to the Club Nintendo website to redeem the code, and I find it to already be used…
I figure someone wrote down the code and used it without ever buying the game…but honestly, do you guys reckon retailers should keep these codes with the CDs, and not in the cases where petty little thieves can get their hands on without ever buying the game OR should they just seal up the game with security devices attached?
Either way, it is quite infuriating…
This has been a common problem for promoters of all sorts, I remember the Slurpees for example there were kids in 7 Eleven with their iPhones taking photos of the unique codes on the cups as they were just there.
Coke Unleashed, same thing with the 450ml bottles, tip it upside down and get the code. Even shapes had a secret glasses promotion, find the glasses inside, and view the code on the outside of the box to claim a good prize, all you needed to do was take a photo of the box, and make the image in NEGATIVE color to view the code.
This is a common issue in games as well. Mainly ONLINE Battle codes. This unlocks the right to play the game you purchased online. I've had several problems with JB Hi-Fi over it that they accused me of taking them and returning them just for the code.
