RTX 4060 on Pci 3.0 Sync Issues

I bought one of the ITX deals from techfast earlier this year.
It's an i5-12400 and an NVIDIA RTX 4060
The case comes with a PCI 3.0 riser.

I've been struggling, since I bought it with what I think are sync issues, both image an audio drop for a few seconds then come back. It happens every few minutes, enough to be annoying.

I re installed windows, tried different settings both in and out of games, to no avail.
It turns out that the RTX 4060 uses 8 lanes, regardless of PCI speed.
So it ends up only connecting as PCI 3.0 x8!!!

So I ended up buying a 4.0 riser cable, and it seems to have fixed the issue, the problem is the cable is not suitable for the case, and I haven't found any that are.

Anyone has any experience and chime in?
Thanks

  • …the problem is the cable is not suitable for the case…

    What does "not suitable" mean?

The 4060 can and does run on mobos with only Gen 3 slots with the only downside being lower max bandwidth

Lower Gen 3 bandwidth is a completely separate issue to image drop outs with a riser cable - this usually means the cable is poor quality and/or has insufficient shielding

Have you spoken to Luke @ TechFast re: the results from your troubleshooting?

  • I also messaged him and emailed TF support, but decided to post to see if anyone else had similar problem (which would indicate my guess of a 3.0 issue, rather than the cable I received)

I'm a bit lost, but what i do know is installing the new 4.0 cable seemed to solve the issue

    • Installing a new cable and then having the sync issues stop means it is not a PCI issue

And you still haven't explained what "not suitable" means

Is your new cable too long, too short, too ugly… ?

      • Also, the cable I installed is PCI 4.0 !!
Rather than the 3.0 that came in the build

  • Nah, the case is very tight (ITX)
It needs a cable that the plug is reversed on the male side, then at 90 degrees on the female side. Total length 20cm ish.

There are no cables like that, not locally, eBay, aliexpress, Amazon or even bloody temu.
(Let alone the mounting points matching)

I bought the PCI 4.0 cable to test my theory, but unfortunately, it doesn't have the same shape as the stock, for me to install it permanently.
