Kitchen Cooktop and Ovens - Help Me to Decide

I’m currently deciding on kitchen appliances for my new build (1x induction cooktop and 2x 60cm ovens).

After some research, I’ve narrowed my options to:

Westinghouse (approximately $4,000)
Fisher & Paykel (approximately $5,500, though I’m leaning away from this option)
Neff (approximately $7,000 with current sales)

I hadn’t heard of Neff until a friend recommended it as potentially the best value for money due to current promotions. Further research suggests it may be a "more" premium Bosch. My knowledge with Westinghouse is reliability and affordability, and Fisher & Paykel is considered somewhat premium.

Given the price difference between Westinghouse and Neff, as well as the 2 vs 4 year warranty, I’m leaning towards Neff.

However, I’d love to hear your thoughts or experiences with these brands. Is Neff truly worth the additional cost of ~$3k over Westinghouse?

Thanks in advance!

  • Read read reviews on the above mentioned products , it works for me .

    • Definitely - and most seems negative for whatever reason (especially in ProductReview).

  • Unmetered gas cooktops and free council BBQs are the choice of OzBargainers

Agree. I went to an appliance store yesterday to check Neff and there was cooking demonstration going for pizzas. I had about 4 slices - lunch sorted.

I feel like niche products are not always the most functional and reliable. They might have good after sales service but that’s because they break down more often.

    • This came across my mind. Some ovens are quite high tech etc and I opted to go down in spec.

    • Heya, yep did a cross check and same price at TGG (and the rest).

  • Are you comparing pyro ovens across all three brands?

    • Yes, pyro.

      • I see there's hardly anything at Home Clearance. If you call your local Miele outlet they'll email a stock list; have to ask if there's any B and C stock as these don't get listed.

No way Id be paying those prices for those brands.

I paid under 4 (I actually think I got it under 3 after the wheeling and dealing) for this

    https://www.winnings.com.au/p/siemens-iq700-60cm-builtin-ove…

Also got a Seimens iq700 900 induction, Sirius rangehood (1600?), Oliveri Santorini double sink (sub 1000) and FP Series 9 Dishdrawer (2300)

Seimens (which is Bosch) are 5 yr min warranty and have 24 hour service. I've used it even before installing and they are great. Based in UK.

All up, the appliances, excluding fridge were $10k - just released and I would say mid? Tier.

    I wouldn't spend $10k on low end.

    • Hi Benoffie, I did a comparison with Siemens pricing and it's slightly higher than Neff (due to sales at the moment).
Did you mean you haggled for more than the advertised/stated price?

      • Absolutely. Plus price match and sales. Generally there are big sales in Sept/Oct? That dont line up with BF/Xmas. Obviously not helpful now but I would be going into some of these bricks and mortar stores and haggling hard.

        • I'll get quotes around - Westinghouse I note there's room to move.
F&P and Neff - no, as price seems to be standard across.
The only reason I am looking at Neff now is due to $200/300 off each oven I'm looking at + 15% for three products (or 20% if four). Otherwise, I find it expensive!

          • @DardyMate: FP have virtually no allowances and all are ordered direct through FP. You can even do that yourself.

Also, why two ovens? Serious question. Lots of people buy two and based on the numerous interactions I had with sales staff, it's low numbers that use them on even a semi regular basis.

90cm might be a smarter investment, warmer or convection microwave

There's the obvious cost plus haemorrhaging of kitchen space

            • @Benoffie: Initial plan was for 90cm under bench, but recently changed my mind to 2x 60cm (as I always wanted). Maybe I can get away with 1x 60cm but more options. I'll have to re-think what I really need + costs!

  • Neff has the slide & hide feature for some of their oven doors, which is why I went with them personally. It preheats pretty quickly which is nice.
    Bought mine from Appliances Online.

    • Hey Kail, definitely an interesting feature - though not really needed. But otherwise, are you happy with the oven overall and cost paid for?

      • Oven works fine, it hasn't gotten dirty enough for me to try the pyro function though. It preheats and cooks well, and light is on when cooking so you can see inside without opening the door which is nice. Price was ok, about the same as what the newer models are selling for now.

Have you been to a showroom that has some of the appliances you are interested in on display? It might be worth checking them out in person if you are struggling to decide which to get, to see if there's much difference between the brands.

Which ones have the features you want? They will all heat up and cook things. How many cooking zones do you want, do you want zones you can merge, boost functions etc

What about controls? Do you want only touch screens, or physical dials on your oven? Ability to see what is cooking with the door closed? Cooking thermometer?

Comparing brands is a bit pointless.

    • Hey dtc, I've edited the post to include the specific items.

  • I just replaced my ikea induction cooktop (it died) with a devanti 60cm induction cooktop bought off ebay for $288 delivered (seller had a 20% off code when i bought it). The devanti cooling fans are a little louder than the ikea but not really a deal breaker. 2 months in and it's fine. It does what it is supposed to do.
