Mute Button on Infotainment Does Not Work

I purchased a demo Volkswagen Tiguan recently from a Volkswagen dealer.
However, I just notice the mute button on the infotainment of steering wheel is not working. It says “this function is unavailable” after I press the button. The dealer did not provide me with any useful information after I questioned today.
What can I do in this case?
Booking a service within 5 year warranty appears to be with a cost and it is not yet 12000km till my first service.
Surely this is a faulty button.

    You tried contacting Volkswagen?

Yeah, but all they said was “What did OzBargain suggest when you asked them?”

    • I have tried to find a way to contact Volkswagen but it appears booking a service is the only option. I did contact the sales person at the dealer where I purchased asking how I can enable it but the reply was to press the volumn down.

      • Is it still under Volkswagen warranty? Contact the same people you would if the front fell off. But make sure you aren't misunderstanding the button like MS Paint suggests.

A VAG bidirectional tool will fix that in a jiffy or the dealership can do it at your next service.

Meanwhile, just turn the volume dial down for a similar result.

Surely this is a faulty button.

Not necessarily. If you get a response after pressing the button then it is physically ok. It's function just need to be re-enabled.

If it was faulty id expect it to be intermittent or not do anything.

Go back to the dealer and see if it does the same on another showroom model. Then go from there.

Demand a full refund under lemon laws. This is just the beginning.

    • OP clearly hasn't Googled "Tiguan+mechatronic failure"

      • Then there is all the little issue such as coolant leaking from plastic component's. All for a car that's about as bland as a Toyota.

From VW, you probably need to purchase a monthly subscription to enable this feature…

Ok. This has been bugging me. Is your steering wheel the same as this one?

If so, which button are your pressing to mute as I can't see a mute button?

This is my guess….you are hitting the voice control button, you drive a povo spec Tiguan, that feature is not available in your trim level. Fight me.

See I'd choose the laugh react to that.

Just had a look at the manual so it is indeed called voice control. I used to have it in my Golf and I used it for muting the radio/music when trying to charge my phone but without hearing the music/radio sound. Now it makes sense as mine is the baseline model so the function could be unavailable.

It's fixed, so this discussion is moot
