Air Canada 50K (Gold) Status Removed Prematurely?

Hi there, like many on the forums - I signed up for the HSBC Star Alliance card.

Met spend, received my 50K points, then received an email confirmation of my 50K (gold) status valid through to December 2025, and luggage tags arrive a week or so later. Then cancelled the card.

But when I log on today I see I'm back at 'Red' status.

I've sent customer support and email, along with the email attachment. But I was curious to see if anyone else had their status changed too?

I checked the original 15 page thread, but couldn't see anyone mention status being revoked.

    Pretty sure you have to keep the card open…

      Yeah, I think that’s where I stuffed up.

      I saw the clause about needing $60k spend on the card over 12 months to maintain status, but thought if I cancelled I might be fine with the initial period.

      Oh well - live and learn.

        Lol - my favourite part was were you thought you could imagine your own terms and conditions.

      • Is there a way to hack it, like paying credit cards off with each other or something. Buy 10,000 Eneloops and then return them maybe.

        You should've made sure to double check T&C's and previous thread if you were after gold status- mentioned several times in the post that you have to maintain card or else lose status
