What Do You Consider to Be The Best Value MacBook Available at The Moment?

I'm after a new MacBook but not sure which model to get.

I was hoping to see some Black Friday deals on MacBooks but there are none. I think I'd rather get a MacBook Pro over an Air. I've heard the M1 chips are still fine, but there don't seem to be any for sale.

What do you consider to be the best value deal on a new MacBook at the moment?

What exactly is your use case?

Because if it’s not anything other than Netflix and chill do not waste your money on a pro.

For an Air, i'd be looking at a 16gb model now. Costco has a 13" M2 for $1,269.99 at the moment

16GB is the only thing I'd be looking for at the moment, it'll likely have more software updates in the long run. It'll definitely have more AI support, although whether that's actually a good thing remains to be seen.

  • The Pros (with the non-pro or max chips) have two more GPU and CPU cores than the base Airs, but unless you're doing specific and demanding stuff, even the regular Air will be waaaaaaaaay more than good enough.

For example, my work computer was the original M1 Macbook Pro, but not with the Pro or Max chip. This means it was basically just a Macbook Air with a fan in it (and that stupid touchbar!).

I've only heard the fan spin up once in 2 1/2 years, and I'm using Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom etc. in a professional capacity.

If you need a HDMI port built in, an SD Card reader, and really want the best screen possible, then get the Pro.

If I was buying now, I would want a Pro, but would definitely enjoy the $800 I'd save for only slightly reduced performance…. and the screens and speakers and build of the Airs are excellent anyway.

That doesn't answer your question about the M1, M2, M3 or M4s at all, but that's something to think about - work out what it is that you want to do with it, and you'll know which one to get.

For me and my use- a 2014 macbook pro upgraded with 16gb ram and 512gb ssd.

Perfect for web surfing , watching movies and MS office apps.

    • Mine is 2012 I think. Apple would never have become a trillion dollar company if they still kept letting people upgrade ram and storage themselves.
OpenCore Legacy Patcher Allows older machines to run newer versions of MacOS.

  • Have you played around with the demo models? I'd choose the extra display area of the 15-inch Air
