18 TB desktop/workstation hard disk drive Toshiba X300 Pro is the only large size PC/Workstation drive since 12 TB Seagate Barracuda Pro. While NAS and server drives work in PCs, this one is quieter than most and has lower power consumption (although still makes click sounds). This is the lowest price according to CCC and sold on Toshiba's store, so you can be assured it's not a second hand drive with reset S.M.A.R.T data. A downside is that Toshiba doesn't sell consumer internal HDDs in Australia, so you will need to deal with Amazon for warranty claims. Comes with a 5 year warranty.

I rememeber the pain my dads wallet felt when he bought my first 4Gb hard drive.
I remember buying my first hard drive - 5Mb!
Mine was a 20MB but I remember when my older brother got a 5. It was bigger than a shoebox, and also louder!
Mine was a 10MB on my first PC-XT clone, it cost me about $500 from memory. 20MB was too much more!
Yup. Had to delete dad's CAD software, so I could install king's Quest, play it for a few hours, then return everything back before sleep
Found an old email invoice for a 60gb drive I bought which was $520.
It really makes you realise how far we have come with technology. We really haven't made much progress in hard disk capacity or speed in the past decade. If you look at the same growth in hard drive tech and speed pre 2010, we should be at 100TB Hard drives in 2025 for $500.
I'm about to buy a 2TB…
You make me feel even older. Paid a fortune for Conner 420 MB to upgrade the tiny 40 MB.
The size increases have really slowed down in recent years to about 10% per year, but they charge significantly more per TB for those slighty larger sizes. The recently launched 32TB still doesn't have a pricetag.Wow, didn't realise 3.5" drives had this much capacity these days. I'm tempted. $27.40 per TB ain't bad.
If you are tempted, try Neology (not associated, but bought many times) - currently have the 16TB @ $23.12 per TB, sold out of the 18TB ones for the moment.
Edit: Just checked they have 5% off for Black Friday (BF24)
Haha, I'm an idiot. Despite reading and writing 3.5", in my head I was reading 2.5". Apparently I need to stop posting at midnight. :-)
Thanks for your comments anyway, I hadn't seen the WD 32TB before. Man, that's a lot of data to lose if you drop it on the floor.
It's not really a sale, they increased their prices by 5% so it's just the usual price after the code is applied. I know because I've been keeping an eye on their site all week cos I'm looking for drives.
Thanks. Bought one. Now, just need to build a new PC to go around this storage drive.
I would strongly recommend not buying Toshiba hard disks due to the inability to RMA failures.
Is there a shortage of drives? Nothing has been on sale in quite some time (new).
Both the new and the resale/refurbished prices has gone up significantly in the past 2 years.
Back when 2TB drives were considered huge .
