They're TRASHING the flow of data! They're TRASHING!….

    • +1

This movie inspired me to do a lot of bad things when I was younger.
Shout out to the 2600 crews ;)

      • But none for that (profanity) sabu

    Music unfortunately a let down

Seriously? The use of Orbital, the Prodigy etc. is iconic

    • +13

      Massive Attack too

      • +6

Damn I love Massive Attack. By memory they used "Protection" in the movie but it's strangely omitted from the soundtrack.

    • +6

This is an excellent soundtrack! I have no idea how anyone could say any differently!

    • +2

This movie got three different CD soundtracks released for it in the 4 years after it was released, which says it all. That doesn't even include the expanded soundtracks that came later. OP's Gibson is very much hacked.

  • +14

Well described, don't forget about the pool on the roof that must have had a leak! :P I disagree entirely with you about the music. Hackers had a sick OST

  • +18

Music unfortunately a let down. 9/10.

Amongst my ridiculously large CD collection I have the soundtrack to this movie somewhere, it's pretty good IMO. Leftfield, Prodigy, Underworld.. all good staples of 90s electronica.

  • +3

    Was rubbish. sneakers ftw
    1992??

    • +2

I LOVE Sneakers, but I also think Hackers is a great movie - two totally different movies IMHO…

    • +2

      Sneakers
      Hackers
      The Net
      Takedown
      Anti-Trust

      Not in any specific order.

Missed an opportunity to spell out SHAT(T)

        • SHAT THE PLANET!

        • Well if you didnt reply to it, I could have edited it! I was actually looking for an IT movie starting with I but gave up

          • +1

@DMFD: As long as you tried, that’s the main thing.

      • +1

The Net felt like science fiction, now it's norma to live like Sandra did in it.

  • +5

First footage of the WipEout concept too ❤️

    • +6

Well it looks like Im on top.

  • +5

Great, terrible, great movie. I still watch it every three or four years for the reminder that I did nothing with my leet skillz.

I have to assume sarcasm re: the soundtrack. It's full of early-90s gold.

  • Such a good bad movie. Still a third place hacker movie compared to war games and sneakers IMHO.

  • +10

"RISC architecture is gonna change everything"

  • +3

Wow 28.8 bits per second. That makes me feel so old young.

    • +1

Slowest I've ever used was 300 baud at 300bps. BBS would load like chat gpt a character at a time.

Edit: well not chat gpt, like a local LLM without a GPU.

      • +2

At least that's faster than Morse Code 😅

Saluting my elders for the work they did in the past. I know a few old coders with their legitimately timeless Fortran skills, it deserves respect. Here I am thinking I'm cool fumbling around with Linux.

I'll enjoy watching this film, from a better, simpler time.

My first modem was a 2400bps bought in 1993. I remember downloading a movie trailer in 1995 and it took about 4 hours (it could download about 1MB per hour).

    • -1

It's not 28.8 bits per second, but 28.8 kilobits per second.

      • +3

Slow down junior, there was a time before the kilobit per second

        • What's with the downvote? I was correcting a mistake.

          • @Mr Bob Dobalina: If you want to correct a mistake you'll have to time travel and tell the actor what line to read

  • +1

    You forgot Jolt Cola

  • +4

Mr the plague! Soundtrack is the bomb, still listen to it on occasion.

  • +1

What? Did your ma buy you a 'puter for Christmas?

    Best movie ever, hands down.

  • +4

    Never fear, I is here.

  • Plagues birthday today. Or yesterday. Americans are a bit behind.

  • +1

    Eugene!

  • +1

    Mess with the best…

  • Nice blast from the past ! Haha

Love the vhs scene at the start

  • Nice refresh rate.

  • +5

    Spandex: it's a privilege, not a right.

  • +3

It's in that place where I put that thing that time.

  • +1

    Well sh*t on me

  • I lived the 90's and somehow I was not aware of this movie's existence.

  • +5

Woah, looks like WarGames is also available for the same period! Friday night movie marathon sorted!

My dad rented this for me and my brother to watch in the late 90’s and I have no idea why, he’s not even a computer guy.

    Great memories.

  • Gonna head up to the pool on the roof, kick back and watch it this weekend!

  • Is this the new remastered version?

  • -1

IS there a remastered version. Every few years I’ll check for a 4K remaster. Loved this film.

  • Love this movie.

  • +2

This movie is a guilty pleasure.

    'It has a PCI bus'

  • Yo I'm blowin' up

I LOVE hearing the specs of their pc/hardware… Makes me laugh and brings back lotsa memories. I remember watching this at the movies and thinking "whoaaa those laptops are badass!" Lmao

It's implausible teens vs adult criminals in the style of American teen flick, but with minimal sex jokes and nudity, maximum stupid graphics that supposedly represent hacking, teenagers peering at rolling screens of gobbledegook, saying they know what it is and an abysmal soundtrack. The redeeming feature is the comparison between 90s computing and now. How the world has changed!

  • Tap tap tap…. I'm in!!!

    • every hacker movie
    • Watch Blackhat.

  • It's got a 28.8kpbs modem it's the Kawasaki of computers

  • It's been available on SBS On Demand for months.

    • -1

      You should've posted it
