Samsung Ring Disappointment - Doesn't Have NFC

I was looking for a NFC ring to make payments and always thought Samsung ring could do that.

It was heavily advertised, until I went to a shop luckily didn't purchase it. Are there even such a thing that exist for NFC ring to make payments or are scams. There so many costing $10 on eBay, Amazon and temu, no official big tech company have made any.

  • Bankwest had a pretty decent one but they discontinued it: https://www.bankwest.com.au/personal/ways-to-pay/bankwest-ha…

There are plenty of other contactless payment rings like Mclear and Tapster but they're mostly US-based and will need to be imported.

I think Oura Ring is adding NFC payments at some point. Most people just use smart watches to pay though.

  • You could DIY it. The process involves dissolving the plastic on your credit card using acetone and then putting the chip and antenna coil into a ring. If it goes wrong you can request a replacement card from the bank.

  • NFC on ring is nice in theory if you are not bringing your phone at certain time like during exercise outside. Most people usually bring their phone all the time, including me. So, NFC on my phone is good enough when I need. I usually put cash like $50 on the back of my phone between phone case and the phone just in case when I need cash. There are still a lot of restaurants and stores that offer discount with cash while putting surcharge on non cash payment.
