USB B to USB C for a monitor ?

Hi

I'm planning on buying a monitor with a KVM switch, the monitor has a usb c port and a usb b port.
I have two laptops..one will connect to the usb c and the other using the usb b port.

Note: I dont care about power thru the usb B port.

Can I use the below cable or something similar to connect my other laptop to the usb b port on the monitor ? So that it can share the mouse n the keyboard.

    Are you sure it's USB B? 🤔

    I suppose it might work?

  • The USB B port in the monitor is like the 'input' to the USB hub inside the monitor. It's intended to plug a single PC into it so that the monitor acts like a hub so you can plug multiple peripherals into the USB A ports on the monitor. A USB C port on a monitor usually is so you can plug in a laptop with a single cable which will a) Provide the display signal from the laptop to the monitor while b) Powering the laptop from the screen. Never heard of a monitor acting like a KVM.

To make what you want work, you'll need to connect your devices like this:

    Laptop 1 - USB C
    Laptop 2 - HDMI/DP & USB B

    Peripherals - USB A

Page 27 of the manual explains how the KVM works.

There's a few port combinations you can modify but simply put USB B cannot be used for display.

    • Yes for the Laptop 2 .. I want to use a USB B to USB C cable instead of the supplied USB B to USB A

Should be fine, as long as you also have a HDMI or DP cable connected to it too.

      • So

        • Laptop 1 USB C to KVM’s USB B port 1
        • Laptop 2 USB A to KVM’s USB B port 2
        • KVM’s USB A port to Monitor’s SS port
        • Keyboards and Mouse to Monitor’s USB 3.0 ports

        Right?
