Free game - Peggle Extreme

240

A genuine freebie! Peggle Extreme for the PC is a totally free purchase from Steam.

Not sure what the original price was but it's not a demo or a stripped down version. There is another package called Peggle Deluxe that costs USD9.99 and has more levels and different graphics, but this one doesn't appear to be a subset of that, nor can you get it in any other package. So basically it looks like it's a free standalone game. Can't argue with that!

Peggle Extreme delivers fast-paced puzzle action that combines elements of pinball and pachinko to create a truly unique game experience. As with the original Peggle, Peggle Extreme requires players to fire a metallic silver ball from the top of the screen, relying on gravity to propel the ball downwards while ricocheting off orange and blue "pegs".

  • Master 10 levels of "Extreme" challenges
  • Conquer 5 Master challenges
  • Play against a friend or the computer in Duel Mode
  • Revel in breathtaking artwork and sounds from Half-Life: Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2
  • Replay and save your best shots

Might be another good (cheap/free) xmas pressie lol ;-)

  • It's making me install steam first, which need upto 1GB of HDD space.

Peggle is a great game but it isn't worth filling my computer up with shite.

    • Yeah, I guess this freebie is better for those who already have other Steam games and so therefore already have Steam installed. Sorry, I didn't think of that and should probably have pointed that out.

where did you read the 1gb? Steam doesn't use anywhere close to that I'm certain for a base install without any games.

      • I went to install Steam and that was the recommended system requirements.

        • Windows 2000, XP or Vista
        • 64 MB RAM
        • 400 Mhz processor
        • 1GB HD space (recommended)
        • Internet connection (broadband recommended)

I know 1GB (or even 200MB) isn't a lot of data these days, but when you use a laptop as your primary computer and also like having a large MP3 collection you start thumbing your nose at products that stake a large claim to your hard drive.

    • The Peggle pack I got was only 200mb or less. Deluxe stand alone should be far less. Only need 1gb if you getting the Source SDK For source based games.

    • The 1GB "recommendation" is so people don't install a few games and go WTF when they run out of space.

Steam itself is tiny (at most 100MB depending on what you count). Peggle will add a mere 100MB at most or so.

Failing that, 320GB notebook hard drives can be had for under $100

  • Thanks for sharing! Great!

  • Peggle is an amazingly fun game :)
    Great deal! Thanks!

WTF I actually paid for this when it came out…biggest timewaster ever.

    • +1

A lot of people would think 'biggest timewaster ever' is a sign that it is a great game :) Just think of all the billions of man hours wasted on World of Warcraft.

      • And think about how much of a pointless time waster it really is?

Enjoying the "wasted time" isn't exactly wasted time.

  • @itsross:
I installed Steam itself without Peggle and it took up 96mb, not 1GB?
Looking forward to Peggle, the unofficial iPhone was a fun time waster
    Edit: Peggle was 20mb

    • That's expected. The 1GB recommendation is for room for other games. Popular games such as CS:Source, HL2, UT2004 etc. are several GB each for example.

  • Reminds me of this, and the linked page still seems to be up.

    • Thanks a million!

  • this is a free game and a taster of the deluxe version. so you might think of this release as being 'shareware'.

  • Great find. I already have Steam thanks to an earlier deal where you could buy Half Life for $US1.
Two great games now for an investment of $US1 - doesn't get much better.
(side note, I haven't played Peggle Extreme yet but I trust in my fellow OzBargainers that it is a worthwhile download!)
