Chainsaw - Import from USA ?

About 12 years ago I bought a Husqvarna chainsaw in the USA , but for the life of me I can’t find my purchase receipt anywhere so can’t find the name of the store.
From reading up it seems like it can’t be done anymore , imports of chainsaws has become difficult?
We need a new one , either Husqvarna or a stihl. Has anyone purchased overseas and had any issues ?

    Why?

Chainsaws from Texas are pretty good.

      • Do they make them bigger in the states?

      • +8

Texas chainsaws are mainly good for "mass acres".

        • +2

I've found when it comes to talking about the best chainsaw, it always becomes a "mass debate".

        • Please people, do not mass debate with our chainsaws! Texas chainsaws belong in Texas, I tell you whut.

  • Budget?

    • Black Friday; prices will be SLASHED!

      • Make sure there's adequate lube on the bar.
The good news is, two strokes are the popular choice.

Why!!? They sell both of these brands in Australia, why would you bother to import them.

    • Mick Jagger factor. (model variation)

12 years ago the AUD and USD were close to parity.

Would not even bother entertaining the idea of importing a chainsaw in 2024 OP.

    • Dollar conversion is shite
    • Freight is expensive these days
    • GST on import
    • No warranty.

      Importing doesn't make sense. Cheers.

    • Yeah looks like I might be just buying here by the sounds of it - 12 years ago it was ridiculously cheap ! I'll wake up now from the early 2000's haha

        12 years ago was 2012.

I also love paying $2000 for a $500 chainsaw and having no warranty.

Australian chainsaw buyers love this one simple hack.

You know me so well. Just got back from a long weekend at Coolum, so much nicer than this joint.

Get Makita instead. I deep dived into chainwsaws before I bought mine and glad I did. It's over 10 years old now and still starts pretty quickly and has heaps of power and wasn't as costly as the competition.

If it's one of these did you get the recall?

      • +2

Cheers, yeah I was aware of that TBH but keep forgetting to get it looked at. I have to get a new mower belt tomorrow so I'll ask them about it then.

From a rural resider myself who looked into this a few yrs ago, it really wasn't viable for a midrange saw. The distro licences are done so tight it's hard to get delivered from most places, some mom & pa stores will look the other way and send but when you factor in currency, postage and potential issues (which will not be honoured by the local brands) its just not viable IMHO.

Ok thankyou for your response :)

  • Husky 372XP, or go home

It needs to be a big one - we had a Rancher 460 - but it died :(

      • Like I said….

        • Yikes expensive haha

            @ELH05: Well what's your BUDGET?

Maybe an electric knife would suffice?

How did you kill a 460? What sort of work (and frequency of it) was it doing and what regular maintenance did it get?

*The expensive thing cancels out when build quality, work performed, reliability and longevity are included.

      • That’s what she said

        • ''he said, she said"
          That's what Scomo said

    • Nah, Stihl 660 all the way

        090 (LOL)

        • With no brake!

  • Giantz chainsaw ftw

      Perfect for cherry trees?

  • If you intend to get new Stihl or Husky, bigger than the 460 you killed, start saving. This time maybe treat it like it costs you what it did.
    Or buy cheap and often

  • 12 years ago $Au to $US was parity or better now its >0.70 also postage/freight costs are much higher and you could have trouble with any warranty claim so really not worth it
