Local Social in Australia -: Anyone Use It?

Does anyone use NextDoor? Based on a highly unrepresentative sample centred on Lismore, Byron and Ballina, NSW, it's pretty dead.

In stark contrast I had a recent view of NextDoor's efforts in the UK centred on North Norfolk and Norwich and there's a load of stuff happening.

It's a similar comparison with Freecycle in the two countries (using the same unrepresentative sample), the Australian site has tumbleweed blowing thru whilst the UK ones are buzzing.

Let's join in, post up and kick it to life.

  • Australian local communities are still steadfastly stuck on FB unfortunately. It's far too much effort to get people to migrate to a new platform and you'll never have a larger community on there either.

  • I wondered but Faecebook et al seem just as busy in the UK as in Aus. Folk seem to be using the local oriented sites in addition to Faecebook

  • It's the only website of this kind of I've ever heard of, so wouldn't surprise me if it takes off here one day. We sure do love FB tho like above mentions.

Let's join in, post up and kick it to life.

I signed up early last year. The day after signing up, I got an 'activity' notification email from my neighbourhood, despite having all notifications (including email notifications) turned off in the app. I double checked the app notification settings, confirmed everything was already off, and also clicked the 'Unsubscribe' link in the email. Next day, I received another 'activity' notification email.

I checked reviews and saw other people complaining about the exact same thing (plenty of these reviews around the same time). Deactivated my account, and requested a permanent account deletion request. Good riddance.

    • Ah. Don't use the app. Browser with Adblock works fine. I've never had a problem with unwanted notifications etc though. Odd that.

  • It's so dead that your feed will be full of posts from 5 suburbs over.

I use https://home.thelittapp.com/about/ its called LITT on the app store its social platform that lets you sign up for a free debit card and earn cents to save up and put on your debit card. they recently updated it to be able to use the debit card anywhere in australia. its like a social feed with the ability to earn.

  • My local is just full of MLM marketing now, Nextdoor admins/mods are too dumb to recognise it. It really is one of the worst social networks, all the personality of LinkedIn
