Kris Kringle Help: What's The Best Thing I Could Get for $50?

Thought this one could be some fun.

Our work does secret santa where you can pick a random wrapped gift or steal someone else's. It's a $50 limit (that the company reimburses). With Black Friday sales I'd love to get something of crazy value that disrupts the game a bit. Audience wise we're construction/engineering industry, mixed ages from 20s to 60s, lot of young families, mix of white collar and blue collar (moreso white collar).

It's usually a big mix of gag joke gifts (CEO face on socks and undies, "netflix and chill pack"), lazy gifts (scratchies), liquor, and functional gifts (cooking gear, tech etc). Last year I did a Breville Portable Blender pack and it went down well.

If you spot any generally likeable gift idea in the $50 budget that would be generally sought after or high-value - please let me know!!

Appreciate the help :)

I got good responses to one of the anbernic retro game devices.

    • nice, I love mine - which one did you get (if you can remember)?

      • The one that is the Gameboy form factor, whichever was the ozb deal a year ago!. I have an old landscape one, maybe a R351?

    • Excellent idea. If they don't like the device I'm sure they will find some lucky person who loves it. My R36S Retro Handheld Game Console should arrive today. It cost me $27, you could make up the extra money by adding a 32 or 64GB endurance SD card.

  • 6 pack XXXX and some scratchies

      Ooooooh love that idea

      • please take inspiration from it.
unfortunately, I have leaked my idea to my team, so would love for someone to surprise a bunch of people.
I plan to take paper bowls and spoons with me, with the intention that they share their KK gift with the team (esp. all the durian virgins lol)

    • The only workaround is gift cards, they won't reimburse cash, unfortunately.

      • I hate gift cards.

I was going to say 50 $1 coins.

  • Not on sale, but Aesop Post-Poo Drops, if you wanted to go along the gag joke gift route

One year I got something from Amazon, won it back, returned it freight-free. In your situation a $50 gain, just choose a Free Returns item.
Another time I planned to get one of these t-shirts but couldn't get delivery in time.

Find something around the home that you don't use. Pocket the $50.

As you're an engineering firm would a Lego Architecture set be suitable / classified as fun?
This is on sale for $49.99

$43.95 at Amazon, which I only saw thanks to your comment!

    • Nice idea!

  • Have a look at any ciggeret shop, they have some fun things to buy. Last year I found a set of four glass skull bottles, each filled with a different chilli sauce for $20. Does it taste good? I'll never know and it doesn't matter because they looked cool.

It was over the $10 spending limit, but all the gifts were.

  • Personally I wouldn't mind a Bunnings $50 voucher. They seem to be my go to store for everything so guessing it would be pretty useful for most people.

    Do the blender again!

My secret santa recipient actually put on his wishlist that he wants one…. unfortunately I'd already got him the decanter & glasses that was popular last time (and the same 50% x 20% discounts = $40 since Robin's Kitchen has been closing down for some decades now).

  • Maybe you can get Klask?

  • It’s always the big Coles store the night before for me lol. A singing pot plant or blue tooth speaker. Christmas lights are also good popular one
