Teeth Whitening Recommendations

Hey guys, anyone had much luck with tooth whitening?

Lots of products readily available have very mixed reviews, and it seems like it works for some, but not for others…

What product have you used that's made a difference for you?

I have used crest white strips supreme a decade ago but it's banned in Australia due to its very high hydrogen peroxide %. It was 16% (or 14%). This is very high but my teeth are white AF. I stopped approx 8 years ago and people still say my teeth are white. But the damage is that your teeth WILL become sensitive and damaged. Your enamel will eradicate.

If you want a 'safe' way, I believe the highest hydrogen peroxide now legally in Australia is 6% (maybe 8, pls fact check) and this will slowly get your teeth white over a few months.

I highly suggest research the peroxide % as most whitening products won't tell you as they may contain 2% or less and this is nothing if you want your teeth whiter.

There are two types of peroxide, hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide.

If a product states it has 10% carbamide peroxide, that's equivalent to approx 5% hydrogen peroxide.

In my experience all teeth whitening strips are the same. You need to see the % peroxide.

    • I'm impressed. The above is accurate. Getting custom whitening trays from your dentist is the best approach. And you can reuse them for many years to come. Strongest over the counter is 6% hydrogen peroxide. Dentists can offer 9% take home.

    • Your enamel will eradicate

      Erode?

      • Radicalise?

    • Possible to import higher concentrated carbamide peroxide gel from overseas. I've personally used 20% and 30% and had great results. No increase to sensitivity or otherwise adverse impacts.

Could save for veneers. Just don't look up how they do it, wouldn't blame anyone for wanting yellow teeth over what they do to put veneers on. Worse than anything I've ever seen in any horror movie, just look it up on YouTube. I suppose you're all numbed up and can't actually see it being done tho..

  • Colgate Whitening Mouthwash has been the only product that has worked for me.

It becomes pointless as black coffee stains the teeth back and I won't give up coffee.

    • Is all coffee stain teeth? Or just black?

      • Black especially.

Was surprised when I saw the difference in whiteness (as most whitening products do not work) but once the mouthwash ran out, I saw my teeth quickly went back to how they were.

        • Thanks man

So twice a day like normal mouthwash?

Also do they go on sale often i see 500ml for $4 on sale 50% off priceline

You mean the whiteness only lasts 12 hours?

Also what other whitening products did you use and think do not work

          • @ATTS: Yes, every day. As hasher22 said, it will take a few months of consistent usage for you to see the change. Your teeth will look brighter. The whiteness lasts until it gets stained. I don't use the whitening mouthwash anymore.

I used toothpastes, other mouth washes, strips, dentists. In the end, I'm ok with not having super bright white teeth.

            • @skid: Thanks! So when you did use the mouthwash regularly for few months it became "super bright white teeth"?

              • @ATTS: Yes. It would have been quite a difference because even though you see your teeth every day, you'll think, "my teeth weren't this white before…"

  • Decisions, decisions: short term gain (whiteness), long term pain (no teeth - if the enamel erodes, that's it)

    • Good teeth whitening does not erode enamel. Stay away from charcoal.
