YMMV but fossil has abandoned smart watches so unsure about future updates.
Rather buy a nice looking dress watch that will last longer
Well, yeah - if we go and compare it to a watch watch… there’s very nice pieces for sub $100. But that’s not really a fair comparison.
@WatchNerd has posted a few nice watches from Ali sub $100. Ill take that anyday over a fossil smartwatch with questionable support and likely to be a paper weight in a short period of time
Just saying
Great for people you don't like

Personally wouldn't recommend.
Dont think he bought it
You missed the next sentence:

A $99 half-decent smartwatch could make a good present for a teenager who might damage or lose it before it stops working. Or it could be a way to figure out if a smartwatch is useful before spending big bucks on a current model.
This is only for the low price and the look, but highly inaccurate in term of heart rate accuracy. Check YouTube "The quantified scientist" for real accuracy tests and results comparison of so many smartwatches.
So, people buy this because they know the brand and it's a fashion brand. Better get a Huawei Band 9 for the price and fitness tracker functionality with high accuracy. Or just get a dress watch without the smartwatch function.
Most google wear os and apple smartwatches have short battery life like 1-2 days (include this Fossil gen 6), so these may be thrown away to landfill faster than Garmin or Huawei smartwatches with longer battery life like 1 or 2 weeks or more. The battery is not replaceable. Do you like to recharge this every day? It's up to you. Remember battery degradation and it's not manufactured this year, I think.
Some people don't care about health tracking and just want to get notifications or calls on their watch so they don't have to keep checking their phone. This would be fine for them as long as they know they're buying an EOL product. It's also one way to figure out if they like smartwatches before spending a lot more on one.
I bought a Fossil gen 5 a few years ago for about this price and its been decent. Nothing special but for under $100 you can't really go wrong.
The OP got me with "Personally wouldn't recommend", now I wouldn't buy.
I know it’s fossil and we poo poo fossil as a watch brand but $99 looks ok for what this is lol
