Boost Mobile 12 Months Plan Less than $270/Year

Hi all, My Boost mobile is about to expire tomorrow.

I'm planning to recharge with another 12 months plan and stick with Boost (as Boost has good coverage and don't want to move to Optus/Vodafone resellers). I don't care about big data, as I'm working 100% from home.

Looking at boost recharge page, the lowest 12 months plan is $300.

I can see Boost has Black Friday sale, but only applicable to 28-days card.

I have Woolies Car insurance, thus I can use 10% monthly discount to get Boost Recharge voucher from woollies. Thus total cost would be $270 OR $22.50/month for it.

The question is, is there other options that is more cost effective?

Thanks in advance!

  • Search ebay and buy one of the 365 day boost plans. They're about $200

The Woolies 10% discount doesn't apply to mobile recharges.

    • Oh… good to know, thank you!

Move to Belong (yes, also by Telstra).
Coles has it on special this week $20 starter pack on the $45 plan. You can choose cheaper plan to activate ( i.e $30), which will give you $15 remaining credit for following month. Sign up using Belong refferal code, will give you extra $20.
After activate, move to $21 plan, which will be your ongoing plan.
Your outlay cost for third month will only be $7 ($15 remaining +$20 credit-$21 for 2nd mth -$21 for third month).

You decide after 3rd month if $21/mth is cheap enough to continue, or port to boost.
If you decide to go to boost, buy that yearly sim card NOW from ebay. ($230 sim card for $180).

Why now? Because that specific $230 sim card is no longer on sale from boost, as the cheapest is now $300. The ones from ebay are just remaining leftover stock, hence get it now, if that makes sense?

Never mind… you are already ported out to kogan ( saw your other post).

Ebay is the way to go, or port to belong after kogan.

Thank you for the great explanations! such a great calculation you have there!

Re: Coles special for Belong; I could not find the post; could you please share the link please? I might nee to upskill my search skills

Go to coles.com.au, look for catalogue.
Open page 47, middle page. If you can spot Boost, to the left is Belong Sim $20 for $45 starter pack.

            • @frondono: oh wow! that's good to know! this is better than the $20 referral code…

I wonder if I were to buy the one from coles (Belong $45 Starter Pack for $20) it will increase the credit to $125 ($80 bonus credit + $45 credit from the Belong starter pack itself)…

              Thank you!

            • @frondono: Update: it turns out this $80 credit only applicable if you also join NBN… which is not mentioned on their website… poor marketing and misleading ad.

Please note that Boost and Belong don't provide the same coverage.

Boost uses the Telstra retail network and gives the same coverage as Telstra itself. Belong uses the Telstra wholesale network which has reduced coverage, mainly missing coverage in rural areas.

This difference in coverage may not make a difference to you, but you should be aware of it.

    • By the way @eutama where did you find the $21 plan from Belong? as I cannot find it on their website?

Unless that option will show once I activate my sim card?
      Thanks!

  • Buy one of these:
    https://cellpoint.com.au/shop/boost-mobile-230-prepaid-sim-s…

Port out to Aldi $5 sim:
    https://www.aldimobile.com.au/products/payg?srsltid

As soon as you've ported out & activate with Aldi go back to Boost with new SIM.

Just did it last weekend, takes about 2-3h but no dramas

    • Thank you! Good to know that there's a non e-bay option for this

    • Cellpoint is sold out :/

  • I'm thinking I'm just going to move to Aldi. Boost piss me off with having deals that are only for new users and you have to port out and back. Plus no data rollover for the 365 day plans.

None with Kogan 365 either but at least you can buy a voucher at the same price as new users and recharge your plan.
