This is THE set to get if you want to learn how to play the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG). Comes with 3 pre-constructed decks with matching tutorial guides, a game board and related accessories (coin, damaged counters, etc).
Cheapest out of all the bricks-and-mortar stores too.
Personally, not very. The guides walk through every step of the rules - the cards are even numbered to match the bullet points in the guide.
We bought this the other week and it's very easy to pick up, my 5 year old got the hang of it mostly.
It comes with a very hand-holdy tutorial which is great, but I recommend checking out a YouTube tutorial first to see how it works (just search for "battle academy tutorial").
My seven year old loves this
If they can read numbers and small sentences it's fine.
Definitely not complicated to pick up but there is an app called Pokemon TCG Pocket that works on a simpler format of the game. Still teaches the basics and even has digital packs to open.

On top of what others have said. Stores tend to run build and battle days that are great for kids and learning the game too.
