After almost 160 years of trading from the same building in Richmond, Melbourne, the Dimmeys flagship store will be closing on 31st December. Lots of product marked down and bargains in men's, ladies and children's clothing, home furnishings, manchester and bed linen, gifts and Christmas stock. No online shopping available. Some items being sold at 90% off the original retail price. The business will continue trading through it's other 45 outlets.
It will be apartments / retail (I think that's what I read).
They keep the tower and facade?
Not surprised it hasn't happened sooner. Prime real estate, apartments would sell themselves.
I used to live near there when I was a kid and could see the clock from my bedroom window and the MCG scoreboard from the other window.
probably developed into apartments.
there was a plan a few years ago to do that but it was rejected as this is a historic building.
So so so sad.
I used to live in Lennox st as a uni student and walk down to dimmeys to check out their bargains - e.g. unbranded explorer socks for $2, bonds t-shirts for $3, etc.
just cruising around the store looking at the different merchandise was fun.
they had 8up docs for $60 at one stage.

Yes it was, though the main damage to the store was a broken window and a few of cans of snow sprayed upstairs.
Wow, that party just got out of control, I mean with all that fake snow sprayed around and all. :|

if its anything like the footscray closing down sale then you can expect vgood deals. stuff gets marked down more towards the last few days

Ah man, not dimmeys in richmond!! Although it's famous for its location, building and ads featuring dippa, not for it quality merchandise.
Anyone know whats happening to that grand building now?
