Samsung Galaxy SIII 4G MRO with Telstra...what am I missing?

Hi guys, sorry if this seems like a stupid question, I just need to bounce it off someone!

So, I want a Galaxy SIII 4G. The current Unique Mobiles deal has it for $529, which is pretty good. Telstra's $50 per month MRO plan has it at $50 + $16 per month repayment over 24 months…which brings it to $384 total repayment cost for the phone, right?

SO if I know I'm going to be with Telstra for the next 24 months (for the reception in my location, etc), what am I not considering here? Is it going to work out better to get it on a plan at the moment instead of getting it outright?

Thanks heaps guys

Consider what plan with Telstra would cover your current situation in terms of network and data usage.

If you own the phone outright, then you can essentially choose any plan you wish, instead of thinking of the $16 only as the phone cost.

i.e. If you can get away on a $35/mth plan, then you are actually saving $31/mth over 24 months, which is $744.

Do the maths for your own situation.

    i suggest dont think its costing u $384..it is costing u $66x24 = $1584..
as geoff said do the maths for urself.. what is that u r using currently? pre-paid, postpaid & how much per month? if buyin a phone outright & then gng for a cheaper plan is cheaper.. then go for it..
    cheers

  • As above, but can you get the standard model cheaper still?

No point getting the 4G model if (as it sounds) you're non-metro. as you'll never see 4g until it arrives on the 700MHz spectrum from the sale of Analogue TV spectrum, which current model phones can't utilise anyway.
In fact its probably a worse idea
    1) you pay more for a feature you can't/won't use and
    2) the battery life will likely suffer even if you disable 4G cause the chip is most likely bigger and more power hungry.

  • I do have to say, personally as I bought the S3 4G from Unique when it was @ $549 that I am glad I got it, even though I am on TPG (Optus).

I put it on power saving mode, and it lasts more than a day on a charge which is a lot better than my old HTC Desire (the original one). I have the same usage, if not more than my old phone and it lasts a lot longer.

Do consider power usage, but if your phone is older and the battery doesn't last as long, then the boost you will get from this phone outweighs what you are used to now anyway.
