Enough said - the legendary Costco Callaway Edge set at a great price.

Amazing value set for beginners and those with high handicaps due to the forgiveness. Big fan of the putter as well!

Will this lead me to Mar a Lago?

yes just remember to hide in the bushes

  • Bought some last sale. Ive never hit the ball so well.

  • Damn would pick a set up instantly but not sure if theyll be too long for the mrs….

    • They would be standard length. So if your Mrs is a bit shorter, she would likely need them shortened.

That link for regular flex for $699 is all graphite shafts, except putter
The reg flex steel shafted irons sold out in the last few hours

  • Anyone got the graphite ones? Are they just as good (or better) ?

Edit: all sets seem to be out of stock now unfortunately

For a beginner (even intermediate), they should stick with steel. Less shaft flex equals more accuracy, and accuracy is much more important than distance with people who play very infrequently. Repetitive frequent play is the only way to get better distance wise…. then you can branch into graphite on irons.

The graphite shafts will give a little more distance, at the expense of accuracy. They generate more head speed, but if you're off target on your swing you'll definitely see it when the ball comes to rest! The pitch angle of these clubs are also higher… again to help beginners get the ball up and away, especially out of rough…. with less distance.

If you're playing infrequently, I strongly suggest the steel shaft. More forgiving when you don't strike the ball perfectly square. Plenty of pro's stick with steel for this very reason.
That's why the drivers only are graphite in this pack. People want the initial distance off the tee (because its noticeable with everyone else you're playing with starting from the same spot) but being 'a little off' on target still means a good tee off/ distance result. The large strike face is also weighted much wider, so even if you're not perfect on the ball strike, you'll get a nice feeling tee off. But once the hole is under play, no one gives a crap about distance because you can always go up a club or 2 to compensate… its all about accuracy!

If you want the pose factor, for an extra $100 get the graphite on the irons too… but faults in your swing will be much more pronounced. The small increase to distance (which you probably wouldn't even notice) won't be a favourable trade to your less accurate results (which you WILL notice). But least your clubs will look more impressive sitting in the bag (oh wait, people really don't care… trust me) ;).

It's far more satisfying hitting the range markers one shot after another at the range like a sharp shooter, than a few extra metres in distance- but being off target by more than a few metres! That builds confidence and enjoyment of the game when you can place the ball exactly where you want it. More distance comes later (remembering that there's no harm in playing a longer club or 2 to compensate for that!).

People will be tempted to spend thousands at the local pro shop for an impressive set of clubs, that'll give a much worse (and more frustrating!) result to your score card.
I can't stress how important it is for people to get clubs suited to their abilities, and not be tempted by online reviews selling you how important it is to have the best clubs you can afford because of X this and Y that technology wise.

I would put good money on people getting a noticeable improvement to their scorecard using these Callaway's, then clubs worth 3 or 4 times as much… simply because they aren't good enough to be using their impressive and expensive clubs in the first place!

In golf, more expensive clubs does NOT mean a better score card. It means you'll hit a couple balls at the driving range much further (which looks and feels great), but on average you'll get A LOT more mis-hits as well (which will only add to your frustrations).

    • The graphite shafts in this deal are still reg flex so they shouldnt be more flexy than the steel. If it was seniors or A flex, then it would be softer than the steel version but that is not the case. The shafts will be lighter so can be beneficial for some but graphite can also be easier on hands/joints as they absorb more of the shock which is why some low handicap players choose to use graphite without losing accuracy as you can get all variants of stiffness in graphite shafts and graphite doesnt mean softer.
Google search suggests the 7i for this is 30deg which isn't higher. For comparison, better players irons/blades typically have 7i lofts of 31-35deg so it is lower. Some game improvement irons do have lower lofts with some going down to 27deg but in reality, that's more like a 6 iron loft and companies are going it so people using game improvement irons dont feel as bad when they can't hit the same club as a better player.

  • Damn just missed it! If only I spent 24/7 on ozb
