Oppo A72 Not Working Well on Telstra / Boost Network?

My data/ internet on my phone has been terrible lately.

I have a Telstra / Boost sim

It's an Oppo A72. Got heaps of free space, nothing else running. Turned it off/ on.

It came as an Optus locked prepaid, but I got it unlocked.

Seems to be worse in the mid afternoon (so maybe just tower congestion)? But my partners Samsung A52 runs fine. No chance of streaming a video. Had to wait about 30 seconds just to load Ozbargain.

Just wondering if there are any hidden settings worth trying? Could it be forcing the use of an Optus band?

Online says these bands are supported - Always thought Telstra was 3 and 28?

FDD-LTE: Bands ½/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/18/19/20/26/28/66
TD-LTE: Bands 38/39/40/41

Cheers

Is your partner also on telstra/boost?

I find that the phones are configured default to 5g, so I've changed mine to 4g as there is better penatration within buildings.

  • Sorry, yes. Partner is also Telstra.

As for 5G, I don't have it. I'm guessing the tower used to be 4G/ 3G shared.

Now mostly 4G and falling over. But don't know why her phone works ok. We are on the same APN. Just wondering if it's a band her phone is preferencing that mine isn't?

Or perhaps her phone signal is running at a higher power. But the tower is only 250m away, and direct line of sight.

This may be at the core of the problem.

The band common to Optus and Telstra is congested. Her phone is being switched by the tower to a less heavily used alternative Telstra band. Yours can't because it was originally an Optus phone.
