Sound Bar Recommendation: Worthwhile Investing on Sonos?

Hi, is it worthwhile to invest in Sonos Beam Gen 2 while compared to cheaper options with dedicated subwoofer and rear speakers.

I have not bought anything from Kogan, but Kogan does have some 7.1.2 soundbar set. Is it any good?

Thanks.

  • Sonos has been pretty good in my experience. That said, if I were to do it all again I'd probably look a little harder for a solution that's more open.

  • Yes and no, I have had the Beam v1, sub and two Ones as rears for 7 years and it’s rock solid. A relative of mine has a $20K wired surround HiFi system which is obviously better but was super impressed with my Sonos system sound. One caveat though is you really do need the Sub which puts it FAR more expensive than a good 2.1c soundbar so as long as you are happy to pay for the Sub go for it. If not just get a good quality 2.1c Soundbar set up.

  • Was very happy with the Beam for TV/movies but found it wasn't rich enough for music (this was without a Sub but with 2 rear One speakers).

Upgraded to the Arc and find it awesome for both use cases.

  • Have you tried spending all weekend looking up reviews and YouTube videos on different models? And being left more confused about which one to buy than when you started.

    • Yup Paradox of choice!

    • YouTube videos on different models?

Like reading a newspaper at 20 yards with binoculars.

  • Sonos is great if you can afford it, like the aesthetic, and prepared to go all-in. My living room is Arc/Sub/2x Ones, with a couple of Era 300s in other rooms, and I'm very happy with the quality. I also recently picked up Ace headphones which can take handover audio from other systems. Yes, you can have a good bespoke system for 1/3-1/2 as much, but it'll be less plug-and-play.

  • what’s your budget future investment, and usage for? Ideal expectation of sound or audiophile?

  • Sonos setup is very simple however as others have said it is pricey so depends on your budget.

Also note that you need an iphone to do a 'proper' set up which is pretty annoying.

Be aware that sonos is a 'tech' company so you're at their mercy when it comes to the product/app whereas a wired surround once you buy it its yours.
