TCL NXTPAPER 11 Wi-Fi Tablet - $248 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-store) @ Harvey Norman

60

Have been following this tablet for a little while now. My wife uses a Kindle but wanted something a bit bigger than her current 7" Kindle that could be an eBook reader with the proper screen and a tablet. For $248 I think I'll jump on it.

Has anyone used it for eBooks?

There's also this tablet one that's 50% off, don't think it does eBooks though > https://www.harveynorman.com.au/tcl-tab-10l-gen-3-64gb-table…

    4GB RAM ruins it

Could be a good home assistant panel

  • For reading books you want a proper eink display. Sounds like Nxtpaper has one in colour which is cool. Might be a bit heavy though so worth checking out in person. Depends how your wife reads.

    • Isn't it just an LCD screen with a fancy screen protector? The screen protector gives it that gives it eink look.

    • I think there's a 14" version of this too. She's happy to see how it goes. Just easier to take something with both options travelling.

Unfortunately it's not a true Eink display. Mediocre review

      Mediocre price though.

      • But sounds like it's like a normal tab with a matte screen protector. I'd rather gamble on a cheaper tab and buy a $10 paper matte screen protector

I was eyeing this product since some time as my google keep sending me with the articles that how this tablet can replace an ebook reader. So, last week, I saw it on special at HN and got one.

However, I can tell you that it is no way close to the ebook reader. I use Meebook M7 and Bigme Hibreak and can read on them easily for few hours without straining my eyes. On this device, I was not even able to read for half an hour.

So, if you need something cheap, which can be a tablet and also read occasionally, go for it. Otherwise if you like to read books without eye strains, stick to the ebook readers with black and white screen.

As I said, my Meebook M7 is B&W, android based ereader and is great for home reading. My Bigme Hibreak is color ereader with phone factor and is great while out of home as it easily fits in pocket.

Also received one of the bluetooth page turner from ebay, which work great with Meebook M7 at home. link below:

    • Do you know the Bluetooth page turner can work for kindle or kobo Ereaders?

      • Not sure. However, I think it will not work on kindle as kindle only allow some selected Bluetooth devices. That is one of the reasons that I stick to Android based ereader rather than kindle or kobo.

        • Thanks! I saw some physical page turner on sale but I really like the Bluetooth one…

          • @pcwa218: I have the physical page turner too, which is no match to the Bluetooth one. These are sold on Amazon and yes work on kindle. Not nice at all, as they are bit of eye sore and also, does not work every time.

However, one issue with Bluetooth one is that on ereaders, Bluetooth turns off itself. So, it is not auto connected, which is kind of annoying.

  • Looks really good, only if it has more ram, 4GB runs like a…
