Plus1 just for the badminton related posting

Badminton’s getting quite popular lately, especially post-covid.

      • +4

I restarted on badminton after stopped training for almost 20 years post covid

    Bring back Voltric 80

    • I have that and it is made so well. A lot of damage to the frame on mine but still holds up strong. 3U is a bit tiresome though

  • Also 4UG6 - easier to handle.

  • any recommendations for beginner racquets

    • As someone else mentioned - Astrox 77 is a good option.

    • The play series are on the cheaper side and are similarly spec'd to the pro range but just more forgiving(way better for beginners)

    • I wouldn't recommend Yonex for beginners. Try Apacs or Protech which are much more affordable.

      • Yeee Protech repping!

    • probably the arcsaber 11 play, great colorway and it's a good racquet from beginner to intermediates.
i started with one and it was just so comfortable to use.
it was very well balanced between power, speed and control

  • usual price $329 i believe.

  • +1

    Yonex carbonex still the best

    • What?! Haha.

  • +1

If you’re beginner-intermediate, I would recommend the Astrox 77 Pro, it’s more all-round and forgiving.

  • can anyone recommend badminton shoes?

    • +3

I got this recently - Yonex Power Cushion 65 Z.
They are quite popular and I m happy with them. I would say these are a good starting point. Anything below these may not be comfortable.

    • I agree with raha, I also recommend going into a store and trying them on as well to find one that fits well (running the power cushion 65Z)

      • These legit?

        • yeah my brother has been been using one for the last 4 years. I got it for him.

  • Whats the best racquet around the $200 range? For an intermediate. This racquet seems a little too pro for me

    • I'd almost always recommend the Arcsaber 7 pro and Astrox 77 pro to any intermediate player.

    • I wouldn't buy anything below the Pro range as they are hard to resell. For $200, I'd go to FB Marketplace and look for deals on Arcsaber 11 Pro or 2nd gen 88D Pro.

    • Badminton Click doing BF deals currently if of any interest.

    • some of my picks

astrox 77 tour or astrox nextage from michael sports
gosen inferno raid/smart/air from pro racquets

badminton supplies SA have a variety of picks, Ashaway racquets (particularly the Phantom X Shadow), Protech and a new brand, Hundred (amazing bargain, reviews have been good)

Changed my racquet, then changed shoes, then grip, then string but still losing games.

      Maybe change your opponent?

    • You need a new bag.

  • FB Marketplace for me…

Just beware of the fake rackets.

  • whats the difference between this and the first gen 88d?

    • +1

I have both in 4u. Third gen is more flexible so clear & defense are easier but less control. Third gen feels kinda numb to me sometimes so I still prefer the 1st gen.

Fyi for those in Sydney, similarly priced at ezbox:
    https://ezbox.com.au/product/yonex-astrox-88d-pro-3u5-3rd-ge…

    • 3u cheaper

      • Ah yeah the 4u is 319, 10 bucks difference but ezbox is a good retailer. Not sure if the SA one is JP code if people care about that

  • Hoping someone here would know where I can restringing done for a decent price in Brisbane. Most places seem to want $30-40 now

    • +1

Wow, and here I am in Perth complaining when my restringer bumped the price from $22 to $23 and then $24 for BG 80P.

    • Quality of stringing is also not as high as Sydney :( Usually I get mine done by people who own their own machine but usually there's a reason they'll only charge you say $25.

    • $32 now.

  • Bring back Muscle Power 99

  • Any good feather shuttlecocks suggestions?
Those things are costing an arm and a leg!

    • We play with Victor no 1 and find it decent.

fairly strong badminton community on ozbargain it seems. shame we don't have many badminton deals.

  • +1

Is it normal price, not a deal? Don't know why the racket is so expensive today. Hope to find some deals on BF.

    • I’ve been looking at this racket for quite some time and it’s always around $360. And yes it’s pretty expensive these days :(

  • Shipped out on Monday and got it today. Even came with a free single racket bag too

  • did anyone notice Yonex no longer use country codes? Australia used to receive AS coded rackets. it was a good way to spot fakes as the fake ones were always SP or JP coded.

    • Yep, new racquets now come with 8 digits number with the 5th & 6th digits being the country code. Some of the most common codes are: 32, 35 - Japan; 01 - Sunrise; 16 - Australia…

  • Why so many likes, this isn't a good price. But I guess since last 12 months any new Baddy gear that got released has been overpriced in Australia. Rip. Only less popular items is reasonably priced like the 700 pro
